Upenn requires 2 essays. I'm submitting 3!!

Is that ok?

i'll just label it "supplementary essay" (i really like the essay, and it's directed straight at penn).

lol and i thought i was obsessed w/ penn. they mail out apps in like august, lol...

i know, but i'm already thiniking about my essay

You might want to consider sending only the two best of the three. I doubt that more will equal better in their eyes, whereas two excellent essays will be noted.

man, I wrote my penn essays january 1st at about 10 pm lol....

Admissions officer will probally only "skim" the supplementary essay unless it draws his/her attention.

OK LISTEn

THEY WILL READ THE 3rd ONE, THEY WILL

3 essays will convince them that u r doing all u can to get in Penn, and they love that kind of attitude. I know it sounds unfair to others, but it WORKS

i spent a few months thinking about my upenn essay. I finally wrote it around october 1 i think for ED.

"the IRS wanted 2000 dollars in taxes from my income, but I decided to give them 3000!"

I really don't know a whole lot about this part of admissions, but the way I see it you don't know how to read directions....pretty easy task, but ya couldn't follow it.

hmm...one guy in my class insisted on sending lots of extra stuff to show his interest. He didn't get in, but then he was really overboard with the extra stuff - essays, a research project, etc...

Send the additional essay only if it is truly going to grab them. If it is luke warm, don't even bother. The additional essay shows that you are committed and heartfelt about making you app strong. But make sure that it is really worth your while.

I've had a htink about this again, and the only school I was rejected from was the school which I sent an extra essay to. It didn't really show anything new about me (i thought it did, but in hindsight -- no). Maybe a bit of anecdotal evidence for your consideration.

Why not send 5 then? That should really impress them!

hmm..i will send 5!!!

---------haha

Why not send 5 then? That should really impress them!

Dude, honestly, that's the best reply on this thread so far!!

I think sending 5 essays is a little too much. Sure, you want to show these people that you are serious, but I mean, 5 essays? Unless you are a Toni Morrison where all 5 of your essays are slammin, I think you should just stick with 3.

So ten is out, then?

Take a chill pill. Don't stress so much about giving a lot of essays. Just make sure the essays you send are all really strong. It may hurt you in the end if you bombard the committee with all your papers. Keep in mind that UPenn gets tons of apps and they may not even have time to read all of the papers. I know you are excited and obsessed about UPenn, but don't go too much over the top.

"THEY WILL READ THE 3rd ONE, THEY WILL"

umm...
my tutor was an admissions officer at Yale. Nothing ****es them off more than people who can't follow directions. It's different when you want to supplement artwork or music if you are the best in your state or what not, but sending extra essays or recs or resumes (which she said too many people do) only serves to annoy.
