Hello,
Should I take upper level classes if I plan to transfer?

First response, “why not?”

Second response, what do you plan to major in? Where do you want to transfer? Have you taken the courses you’ll need as pre-reqs for your major at the new school?

I currently attend the University of Connecticut, majoring in Political Science and Philosophy…For polisci, I have already completed all my major pre-requisite classes so next fall (sophmore year), I will be taking upperlevel classes. I want to transfer to Tufts, Cornell, UCLA and UC Berkeley.

and ummm does anybody know the schools that do not require SAT scores for transfers?

I’ve heard mixed reviews about this. Some schools like to “mint” students with their own upper-level classes, so they are less willing to give transfer credit for advanced courses taken at the old school. I know for sure most UC:s follow this policy, and I’ve heard through the grapevine that this is true for Chicago as well. I’d call and ask with the actual schools you have in mind, though.

Good advice from frrrph.

UC-Berkeley and UCLA are very difficult to get into if you are not a California resident. Possible, but very difficult. If you want the best info re chances and whether to take upperdivision courses for those two schools, good idea to post on the UC Transfer subforum.

JHU did not require SAT for transfers in past years. You’d need to check for current policy.

You can go to http://www.fairtest.org for schools that are test optional, even for freshmen.

Best of luck.
