Upper Level SSAT tips?

What are some of the topics covered that an 8th grader wouldn’t have learned, and which areas to focus on? (verbal and math) Any tips on how to practice vocabulary and analogies?

I think it depends on which math classes you have been in. Get the SSAT book and take a practice test. It will help you know what is on the test and what to focus on. Quizlet is great for vocab. Use any of the SSAT or SAT lists.

Math: Take 2~3 practice, and gather out questions that you missed our guessed. Sort them in the order of difficulty for you to master. Try to master them with one by one. If you aren’t aiming perfect score, don’t tacking them all. Focus those easier ones so you can surely get them in the real test.
English: Take as many practice as you can get, so that you can get better feel & sense. Reading comprehension isn’t something one can improve fast so instead focus on vocabulary. Get a good vocab book for SSAT.

Absolutely get the book from SSAT and take some practice tests. Some test prep centers offer free SSAT practice test. Then you can get a sense of timing in a testing environment.

My children found the SSAT practice tests to be far more difficult than the actual exam, which each of those two very different thinkers did particularly well on.

If you are a very strong student and have traditionally done well on standardized tests, if you, too, find that you begin to wonder that the practice exams are really tough, you may find yourself worrying for naught.

Always get the amount of sleep you need, go in with a clear head, and don’t consider these tests to be the thing which will determine your worthiness, but just one more test for which you have prepared to your best ability.

Thank you so much everyone!

There are range of SSAT practice test books. Some are easier than actual, some are harder. The official one would be closest to the actual.
