Upward Mobility in Petroleum Engineering

I’m a senior in Texas and will be majoring in petroleum engineering. I know it’s sort off thinking tooth ahead but I eventually plan to move more in the management direction. What are the steps to achieve this? MBA? And what companies would be more conducive for this type of career? Big or small?

A rather tough question… The very best thing you can do immediately is become a stellar engineer. People get promoted not because they have an MBA, but because they are really good at their job.

In terms of management, are you talking about managing people or projects?

I was thinking along the lines of managing other engineers, projects would be awesome but I imagine the same person managing the projects is the one managing engineers since he is in charge of the big picture project while delegating smaller task to other engineers.
