Urban?

I wasn’t going to apply because I’ve been told frequently that its an urban campus, and I don’t really like cities, but I was looking on the satellite view and it didn’t seem urban at all?

For people who have visited/attended, what was your impression?

Not urban at all. It’s in a small New England town.

It isn’t urban. Yes, Middletown is 48,000 people, but it isn’t “city-like.” It’s your average New England town, with perhaps a slightly larger, extended suburbia. As soon as you drive past the athletic center, you’re driving through woods and cornfields. I think it’s labeled urban because of Middletown’s slighty larger population versus, say, Middlebury, that’s all.

there’s a lot of commerce during the day; traffic can be heavy. But, all of that drops off considerably after the evening rush.

This may give some perspective. Also, note the many comments crediting Wesleyan for the role it plays in Middletown.

I come from a town of 12,000 and Middletown has roughly the same feel, even though it’s 4 times as big. Calling it urban is a big fat lie.
