Urge Costco.com to stop selling ecigarettes--PLEASE!

There is significant research that “BIG TOBACCO” & now these alternatives disproportionaltely target our youngest and also poorest people and cause huge health costs for society with all the chronic health conditions and other problems they cause. Am asking for help, please, for any so inclined:

Urge Costco to stop selling the e-cigarettes on-line! Let Costco know that you care about health.

In addition to selling trash bags, books, and food at discount-warehouse prices, Costco now sells the NJOY E-cigarette on-line. NJOY electronic cigarettes are a product which the FDA cautions may promote nicotine addiction and encourage tobacco use in young people. Click here to share your concern with Costco and ask them to stop selling this product on-line.

The FDA announced on Wednesday this week that electronic cigarettes contain carcinogens and toxic chemicals such as diethylene glycol, an ingredient used in antifreeze.

Let Costco know what you think. Click here to visit their website to share your concern. Whether you are a member or not, please take the time to ask Costco to stop selling this dangerous product immediately. Click here to view their on-line ad for the product.

For more information, visit the FDA’s website or copy this link into your browser [Electronic Cigarettes](http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/PublicHealthFocus/ucm172906.htm).

Aloha,
HImom

Boy, am I out of it. Didn’t even know what these things are. Sigh. Another carcinogen in our midst.

Why are you picking on Costco? Costco wants to make money and cigarettes and electronic cigarettes are lawful to sell. I can’t stand cigarettes but I fail to see why costco is where the line should be drawn.

Yeah whats the big deal? You can buy alcohol online - why not cigarettes (or ecigarettes, as the case may be)?

in addition to being a private enterprise selling perfectly legal items, Costco is a members-only store. If you want to ban cigarettes, petition FDA or Congress.

Electronic cigarettes?!! What will they think of next? Maybe the movie Demolition Man (1993, starring Sandra Bullock and Sylvester STallone) won’t be far from the truth–in the movie, the people of the future have sex by sitting around wearing special helmets.

^Isn’t that a concept from Fahrenheit 451? The people in the book never had sex, but there was something similar if I remember right.

can you really buy alcohol online ? that seems like a hard thing to prove as far as legal drinking age is concerned…don’t like cigarettes or people smoking them around me , but if it is legal to sell tobacco products online, the problem isn’t with retailers, but with the laws that allow this to happen

From what I read, “electronic cigarettes” act as nicotine inhalers. There was a kiosk at a local mall selling them - they did not stink. A couple of days ago local TV station reported that someone started a (yet another) company selling nicotine-laced water to help quitters kick the habit. We’ll see.

lje62, yes, alcohol can be bought online, but it is not allowed to ship alcohol to WA, so I do not know how the age verification works.

Bunsen, Are you sure shipping alcohol to WA is prohibited? I was chatting with a neighbor a couple of months ago when a bottle of wine arrived via UPS. The UPS driver needed a signature to deliver the package.

Well, at least Costco does not ship to WA:

"By placing your order, you certify that you are at least 21 years old and are purchasing alcohol beverages for personal use only and not for resale. Proof of age may be required upon delivery. No delivery shall be made to an address outside of California, New Mexico, Oregon or to any person under the age of 21 or who is visibly intoxicated. "

My brother ordered wine and asked that I take delivery of it. A person has to be there for the delivery and he works during the day. Maybe I can start a new business for SAHMs…

NJOY is an ecigarette. A recent study showed that many of the ecigarettes have carcinogenic ingredients in them. They are NOT currently regulated by FDA or other agencies.

I am particularly upset that Costco.com is allowing them to be sold on their website since there are so many members worldwide and I believe it is a very harmful and addictive product. I am not aware of any steps retailers actually take to be sure they are selling to individuals meeting age requirements.

Sooooo… maybe your concerns are best addressed to the FDA

So does diet soda.

Any other legal products that you don’t like and want Costco to pull? Alcohol? Those nasty addictive drugs they’re selling at the pharmacy?

For retailers selling alcohol online, there is a form which requires the delivery driver to verify that the person receiving the package is over 21 and get their signature.

But if this product is not subject to any such age regulations, once again, you should probably go to the FDA or your state legislature.

E-cig
Fruit flavored Nicotine gum
Nicotine patch
Nicotine inhaler
Snus
Nicotine lozenge

What’s the difference? It’s all insecticide poision that is among the most addictive substances known to man. Just because some of these addiction maintenance products are sold my companies with large lobbying and campaign contribution budgets doesn’t make them better than another. Frankly, I’m suprised that nobody has started selling nicotine syringes yet.
