URGENT:at what point should i NOT take the math I

(just realized this thread was separate from main SAT’s…)

im planning on taking it saturday, and took my first practice test and scored around 560, which i think is a bad reflection of how well i can do(late, brain shutting off, long day). With studying throughout the week/being rested i think i can score 650 easy, maybe higher with a bit of studying.

My top two choices are BC/Villanova (both of which use sat II’s for placement). is 650 not good enough (should i just not take it at all)? at what point should i consider not taking the test (score wise)?

My s is in the same situation. He is signed up for the sat 2’s Saturday. The schools he is applying to do not require them, but two recommend them. He got a 730 in the math section of the regular sat. When he did the practice tests for the math 1 and 2 he got in the 600’s. So I’m thinking its not worth him to take it if he doesn’t get in the 700’s. Any feelings on this?

First off, practice tests are generally harder than the real thing. Secondly, some schools require that you submit SAT IIs. Not fulfilling the requirements is worse than getting a moderately low score.

If you’re signed up, paid up, and studied up, take the test.

Otherwise, you’ll never know.

Backing out of a challenge for fear of “messing up” is one of the major obstacles to success.

Go for it. even a score in the 600’s is fine for many colleges.

CC is not the best place to get perspective on scores.

You should only consider not taking the test at this point if you’ve decided you don’t want to accomplish much in your life.

i’ve decided not to take it, all the colleges im looking at take sat II’s for placement, and i already have a 600 for bio/world history, and am expecting a 700 for american history. i feel like the math would hurt more than help.
