<p>So if I apply for the scholarship, do I HAVE to submit SIR to Berkeley? I mean I don’t even know my decisions yet so I think this restriction(?) is a bit far fetched.</p>
<p>And yeah, I have been invited to apply for the scholarships… Is it any indication that I already got in?</p>
<p>Why is it farfetched? You do realize that you only get the scholarship if you go to Berkeley, right? This Alumni Scholarship doesn’t apply to any other school.</p>
<p>Well, if you’re awarded the scholarship you sure as hell aren’t going to get it if you don’t enroll at Cal.</p>
<p>It’s not a restriction unless you want to receive the money. If you want the money, it’s awarded to you, and you’re admitted to Cal (3 separate conditions), you have to submit your SIR to Cal by the standard deadline. It’s more so they can manage fund distribution than to commit you to Cal.</p>

<p>No, of course you don’t have to submit an SIR to apply. It doesn’t make any sense if you had to. It would be like forcing you to come to Berkeley without guaranteeing you a scholarship.</p>

<p>If you win the scholarship and want the money, you submit an SIR. But if you get the scholarship but don’t want to go to Berkeley, don’t submit an SIR. It’s that simple. The scholarship is there to benefit you. I received the achievement award but since I already had some other scholarship, I declined it and it just went to someone else.
And if you already knew that, I don’t know why you bothered to ask.</p>

<p>You apply for the scholarship before you are admitted, you ought o find out whether you got the scholarship in late April, right before the May 1 commitment date. If you are awarded the scholarship and you choose to go to Cal, you would then fill out the SIR</p>
