Do the people who interview you have access to your midyear report? Have they read it along with the rest of your application before your interview?

I’m asking because I had a really strange schedule change after 1st semester that will show up on my midyear report, and I want to know if I’m going to have to explain the circumstances to the interviewers. My counselor sent in the midyear report pretty late-- on 2/19-- but I’m sure the admissions office will have looked at it by now.

And yes, I realize she probably didn’t have to send in a midyear report at all (since I was already accepted… right?), but she did anyway, and now I’m really worried.

I just interviewed Friday morning, and my interviewers didn’t ask me anything that could be related to my midyear report. Granted, I didn’t have any strange circumstances-- but if it’s just a schedule change, I doubt they will grill you about it.

I had a fantastic experience during ExploreUSC, and I hope you will too. I was really nervous about the interview but it was very relaxed- I just talked about some of my extra-curriculars and what I hope to do at USC.

I can only say from past year’s experience, but I didn’t ever see a midyear report when I was interviewing students- just the original application.

@OrangeDinosaur, what did your interviewers ask you? If you don’t mind my asking-- what was your major, and was there a professor/faculty-person from your major there asking you specific questions?

And for what you hope to do at USC-- did you have a very specific answer for that too? Because I’m very uncertain about the major I put down so i’m nervous about going into details about my “passion” for it… lol

What else did you do during Explore? I’m so excited!

@icesk8girl: Just got back from ExploreUSC; I interviewed at Viterbi (was an engineering accept). I sat in small room w/three interviewers: a current (scholarship) student, a faculty member, & an admissions officer. My interview broke down like this: first part was me telling them about myself, & the second part was them letting me know they have my application and then asking me questions @ it. I doubt you’ll get some deep, “I’m here to test your knowledge” kind of major-specific question; I didn’t. You need SOME kind of general explanation for the “why your major” question tho.

I’m not gonna lie; for the most part I just winged my interview. I basically came up with my “Why USC” and “Why your major (at USC)” responses through experiencing the entire previous day of Explore activities. So my best advice to you is to 1) review your application, and 2) PAY ATTENTION. The whole “day of fun prior to interview” is basically DESIGNED to make a case for “Why USC.” I housed overnight @ Birnkrant (the “scholarship dorm,”) & no less than like 5 freshman there asked me if I had any questions for them about the interview. Why not ask them?

Your specific experiences are going to be different from mine, but just take it from me that you’ll have concrete things to say @ USC before your interview morning. It helps if you stay open-minded @ the day’s activities and take them in as much as possible, instead of dismissing the whole experience as just some interview at your safety. Anyways, enjoy (you will), and good luck!
