Urgent plz answer this question about subjects

Hi all

I’m about to send in the applications (mostly to Ivies but with Chicago, Berkeley and Stanford) but I have one last urgent question.

I’ve marked my proposed courses there are Maths or History, but I don’t really have much intention of doing either.

Now as I understand this doesn’t matter because the first two years it’s a liberal arts education where you pick whatever courses you want, and then choose a specialization in the 3rd year.

But in that case why ask for your proposed degree anyway? And will it affect chances? (I was picking maths/history since I have the highest grades/achievements in them).

bump

does it matter what subject you write down that you want to do? does it make a difference in chances?

They ask because colleges obviously don’t want to enroll too many students in one major. However, unless you are applying to a specific school within a university, no one will hold you to a specific major. Colleges understand that interests and majors change.

You could always just say you’re undecided.
