My son has decided to leave his north east school (very decent one, I might add)…but wants to transfer somewhere else, to a business school. He is thinking ASU because they are big and they have an August cutoff for transfers. I haven’t read too many good things about ASU.

Can anyone recommend a big school with a pretty decent business school that he can still transfer too? He is a good student, by the way.

I don’t want to give too much out about his id, but let’s put it this way…although he didn’t get into Ivy league (and he tried) , he is not that far down the food chain from them. However, the $45K a year school he is in is not all it is cracked up to be…so him leaving the school is probably NOT a good thing on the one hand, but he hates it, and I actually don’t blame him. His reasoning is for wanting to leave makes 100% sense. He is looking more for a school that can take him in the fall (I wish he had figured this out months ago).

So you can’t give us his GPA and SAT scores? High school gpa? Is he a freshman or a sophomore currently?
If you are serious about this and want help, you should be willing to give us some numerical data to work with.

I know Northwestern’s deadline is soon approaching (may 1st I believe), Santa Clara is out there too. Emory is due the 1st of June.

These are schools that will require a solid GPA and SAT scores.

edit: It wasn’t too hard for me to figure out his standing and school he attends. I would consider Emory and NU a “step up” from where he goes, and thus 3.5+ GPA would be something good to have in showing that he is an above average student at his current school. For Santa Clara a 3.0+ and solid SATs.

momwithq - First, ASU’s undergrad business program is ranked #23 by USNews, along with Babson, Georgetown, Notre Dame and several others. Pretty good company.

I think your best bet for quick info would be to subscribe to USN&WR online edition. It’s about $15-20. It gives you the easiest way (I think) to find what you’re seeking. YOu can look at the B-program rankings (not that they are a be-all and end-all, but it gives you a place to find them all in one place). When you click on any particular school, there is a transfer tab where you can get an idea of acceptance rates and a few other items, including admissions deadlines. The “Rolling” schools will be an option for him most of the time, as well as any whose stated deadlines are still out there. Then you can click through to the schools’ own website to go to their Admissions and click on Transfer there, to see more details re deadlines/apps etc…

Since he seems to want a large school, I do know that Purdue and UMd have rolling admissions. These two are ranked just above ASU. UMd’s priority deadline is long gone(3/1), but their secondare deadline is still out there (6/1). Purdue is still “encouraging” transfer apps - they are a pure Rolling school. There’s more to it than that - because some school’s have B-programs that are harder to get into than other majors. But it’s a start.

Don’t know if there are any good places still accepting apps this late. He may want to wait for one semester.

One option is UVA (very big), it has a very highly ranked business program. He can transfer to UVA’s college in Spring 2008 and if he does well he can get into the business program for Fall 2008 (business program is only 2 years- juniors and seniors).
