For the students who have participated in UROP, could you please tell me what its advantages and disadvantages are?

Also, I will be in the Honors program…would being part of UROP make my schedule way too hectic?

And finally, if I decide to apply using the on-line form, how long are answers (for the application questions) suppose to be?

Thanks!

Advantages: Should be very easy to get an A, not much work outside of showing up for work. Easy recommendation at the end of the year.

Disadvantages: You have to show up for work like it’s a class, it is a whole year commitment.

I just applied, I don’t think they expect very long answers.

Mine were approx. 200 words each.

I don’t understand this. Is this like a class or is it a part-time job? There is almost no info on their website. Do we get graded?

You can either take it for credit or get paid. I took for credit, a very enjoyable, easy 6 credits of “A” for the year.

So you can choose to get paid if you want to? The website isn’t too clear about whether or not you get a choice.

If I understand correctly, you can only get paid if you have a workstudy award as part of your financial aid package.

Dsmo, is this program tough? I’ll be a new transfer and with all the adjusting I have to do, can I still juggle this?

IT is not tough…really it should be the simplest academic portion of your schedule.

That’s good to know.

is there a deadline to apply for this?

I think May 30th was the priority application deadline.

so if u are not in UROP, would it still be easy to find research opportunities?

From what I have heard, yeah. You just have to personally contact professors and inquire. Some people think that that is a better way to go than UROP.

I was admitted into the program today. It says you don’t get to choose who you’re gonna work with until August. That’s…interesting…I guess. I guess it would be better if they had a website where they described experience etc such that students could see what opportunities were available.
