Here is a plausible idea I just deduced as one of several possibilities.
Is it really far-fetched?

EDIT:
I am fully aware that my harsh phrasing of Mr Bush’s work may be unwarranted. I apologize in advance to those offended, but we can still discuss this as though the innards of the Republican party dislike his legacy in a similar way. Feel free to ignore the snipes at Bush.

Your scenario hinges on this. I don’t think anyone who’s fairly tied to Bush will be there – though it’s quite possible Jeb Bush will step up to try to avenge the family name.

I think it’s an interesting, and very plausible, scenario that I’ve heard before in somewhat different forms.

It’ll be easy to fix this. Obama is going to tax the crap out of those who made more money than they usually do in the last 8 years and we’ll be flying high again.

Silly Republicans, you’re never gonna win the lottery.

I think it is pretty far-fetched. Or at least parts of it. The Republicans don’t expect to win the Presidency nor do they expect any President to fix Bush’s problems to a level the public will be happy with. But I’m pretty sure the Republicans are trying as hard as they can to win to this election, if they aren’t they’re surely fooling me. Furthermore, although McCain stinks, he is easily one of the most respectable higher level Republicans. None of the others have the experience and “electability” to be the Presidential nominee for the Republicans and the fact that McCain was known as a Maverick 8 years ago helps him considering the word “Republican” is met by contempt by most of America-this is the reason Congress is so heavily Democratic now.
