H and I will be attending the US Open in Pebble Beach next month. We have our tickets and a room in Pacific Grove. Familiar with the area and have previously stayed at Pebble Beach.
I read the FAQ etc, not our first golf tournament but it’s been years. Our tickets allow restaurants and real bathroom access:).
Re dress is it true jeans are not appropriate? Where do I buy a plastic bag with handles? I don’t want to carry a gallon baggie without handles. I have a small purse that fits requirements, jacket that will crunch up, my USC ball cap. So I can bring in an empty clear water bottle- do they have water filling stations? any hints. We will drive up. Thank you
I’ve been to a few golf tournaments and I play a lot of golf. I don’t know if it’s forbidden but I don’t play golf in jeans and I wouldn’t go to a golf tournament in them. Me, if the weather is nice I would wear a skort and collared shirt to a nice golf course. I think that you would blend in. Also longer shorts and a nice t shirt would be ok. Many courses have a collared shirt rule but I’m not sure if women have to strictly adhere to that.
Have fun, most the tournaments I’ve been to have been hot. Wear your most comfortable shoes, lots of walking
Sorry don’t know about water filling, we’ve bought water there
The jeans probably aren’t forbidden on the course but may be in many restaurants and even the ‘inside bathroom’ access. Agree with the skort/collared shirt recommendation. Khaki pants for your husband.
You can get a clear bag at any sports store, with your favorite team logo on them, as they are required for every sports venue in the US. I have one that I picked up at a thrift store that some handy sewing person made - it is clear with a very cute gecko print trim and the handles long enough to go over the shoulder. Cost $1 and is just the right size to hold jacket, small purse and water bottles. I also have a backpack style one I got for free at a football game but it is much smaller. Definitely can bring an empty bottle and some venues even allow full but sealed water bottles.
I know at the Masters the concession prices were very low so it was much easier to bring little and just buy what you needed. Don’t know if that is true at other golf venues.
Lots of clear bags on Amazon (try clear bags for stadium events).
Take clear empty water bottle. There will be stations.
Concession prices will be astronomical compared to Masters.
If you take lots of photos/videos, take your phone charger…there will be charging stations.
TBH, I would not wear jeans to PB. Good walking shoes, yes. Jeans, no.
Pebble Beach, like San Francisco can be very windy and cool even in summer. I get cold very easily and I would wear long pants and pack something warm plus a wind breaker. The temperature drops a lot especially if there’s fog.
@cbreeze is right. Be prepared for sunny and warm, or foggy and breezy. They may both happen on the same day! Dressing in layers is the key. Most spectators seem to wear golfing attire, or resort casual type clothing instead of jeans. You wouldn’t be the only one wearing them, but definitely in the minority.
If your clothes turn out to be wrong for the weather, there will be plenty of logo wear for sale - lol.
Since you’re staying in Pacific Grove, find out about the shuttle service and take it instead of using the general parking. The shuttle lines usually are shorter than the ones for the general parking lot.
Definitely no jeans. We go to the Masters every year, and dress ranges from shorts/ tops (not t shirts) to sundresses. I wear shorts and a lightweight top that covers the back of my neck (to avoid sunburn). I bring -and use -sunscreen. I also wear a visor. I wear my cross trainers that provide good support so my back doesn’t hurt. We walk around all day … miles on hills. Have fun!
We went to the Pebble Beach Lodge for lunch on Mother’s Day last year. I just looked at the photos I took and everyone had long pants on plus many in fleece jackets on the golf course. If you want to wear shorts/sundress, go inland a few miles to Carmel Valley where the temp could be 15-20 degrees higher.
Thank you!!
Familiar with weather, stayed at the Lodge and Spanish Bay in the past so no shorts or sun dresses for me, too cold.
Happy to hear about the charging and water stations. Please give me more tips.
Definitely getting some logo attire. Might renew our aquarium membership.
Looking forward. CC always comes through with great info.
The Merchandise Tent is less chaotic/better stocked earlier than later in the day. Yes, you have to schlep stuff around with you, but the lines at end of day can test patience.
@lamom There will be a check-in area for those making purchases early so they wouldn’t have to carry everything around the course. They figure this encourages larger sales. A UPS kiosk will also be available to ship home all of the souvenirs directly from the venue.
Any and all Pebble Beach questions available to be answered. Will be here through Sunday. FYI, cell battery chargers available if you have a certain credit card. Xfinity wifi available, too.
