In the late 70s I was a huge tennis fan.
I lived very close to Forest Hills and would go several times to each U.S. Open.

Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Connors, John Newcombe, Guillermo Vilas, Arthur Ashe, Ilie Năstase, Ken Rosewall, Stan Smith, Roscoe Tanner, Vijay Amritraj, Manuel Orantes, Ivan Lendl, etc.

Saw many, many great matches.

Now, I don’t watch at all. Not sure exactly what happened.

Regarding the shrieking: one of my friends watches on TV with the MUTE selected. He then listens to the radio (link on USOPENdotORG) for commentary. I may give that a try next time.

I was hoping for DelPotro or Ferrer. Nice to mix it up when Nadal and Federer are not in the final, but I don’t like Murray and think Djokovich is very full of himself (I guess they all are, but his ego is harder to avoid).

It was some amazing tennis, though!

Azerenka makes a kind of sigh though a very loud one. It lasts into the ball reaching the other side of the court where the other player is preparing for it and I imagine that it could be quite annoying if you weren’t used to playing against it.

I was hoping that Berdych would beat Murray and I think that he would have if it was held on a normal day. Ferrer would have been nice but he’s 31 and the vast majority of tournaments today are won by those over six feet tall. Ferrer has maximized his tennis potential though. Del Potro still has the nagging issue of his wrist injury and I think that it affects his game mentally.

Djokovic hasn’t played as well this year compared to 2011. He’s had some arm injury issues in tournaments this year.

Murray is playing very well, and his training regimen (there are a lot of details of his training regiment at the Men’s Health website) is really, really tough. I’m just not fond of his attitude.
