US Open Tennis final---AMAZING

Spoiler, in case you missed this:

In a RECORD length match, Andy Murray pulled out an amazing win–the first for a UK player since 1930-something. This was incredible tennis, with rallies lasting over 30 strokes. So great!!!

Anyone else watch it?

Yes - great match. Women’s match was also terrific yesterday.

Yes, amazing tennis.

This Scottish family were glued to the TV. It is constantly amazes me that Andy is British when winning and Scottish when he loses!

Well done to Andy, he deserved it!

I’m exhausted. And I didn’t even play!!

Amazing, but I still think Serena could take him.

^^^
That would be fun to watch!

Yes, watched it, and like surfcity, I’m exhausted! Truly amazing. Yesterday’s women’s final was intense as well as amazing also. We were glued to the TV, and even postponed dinner so we could watch. I don’t enjoy watching the women as much as the men (I think it’s an aversion to the shrieking), but yesterday was an exception.

Unbelievable match! I think that DH and I used to watch matches 10,15,20 years ago and think those were the best matches and most talented players, but this match seemed to go to a whole new level. How things have changed to baseline slugging it out from serve and volley players.

FlyMe TTM-lots of grunting from the men! I don’t care for it from either the men or women, but I suppose it must help them in some way or they wouldn’t do it.

Sorry, but that is as realistic as a woman taking Usain Bolt in the 100 meters. Serena would not get a single point against today’s finalists, unless they gave one mercy point to her. As Martina Navratilova admitted years ago, the top women could not rival the top 50 or 100 men on the circuit.

Anyhow, it is a moot point as such match would never take place.

I thought both the men’s and women’s finals were incredible. All four contestants were fantastic.

I think these are the golden days for tennis.

Serena would have zero chance to beat the men, but she could get a point or two. She can crank her serves.

The US Open is my favorite grand slam. I love the energy, the night matches and Super Saturday. Super Saturday is going to end and I think that is a big mistake. I enjoy that unproductive Saturday every year. I think a couple of roofs should be built so the semis and finals would never be postponed. And Super Saturday could continue. I know the players are tired after Super Saturday, but too bad. There is something about Super Saturday…

Anyway, I am happy for Andy and I liked his foul mouth too. His mouth was honest. I would have been happy if Novak won too.

Agree with xiggi. When Chris Everett was asked if Martina could play with the top men she laughed. She said her brother was an average college player and she could not win a game against him. Everett said anyone that asked that question had no idea how good the men really were.

Good for Andy. And on behalf of moms everywhere, congratulations to his long suffering mother!

I hope Rafa will be back next year.

Nice to know there are other tennis fans on this site. I watched the entire match also and it was spellbinding.

Can’t wait to see all the players again at Indian Wells.

Wind gusts approached 20 MPH during the match. The wind was absolutely insane in the Berdych - Murray match. When you have those kinds of winds, the odds are that any player will have more double faults and errors - through no fault of the players.

One of the most enjoyable matches I’ve ever seen. I love it that Murray finally won a grand slam!

momof3- yes, I know the men grunt. Somehow it doesn’t bother me as much. I think my ears are more sensitive to higher pitches. Yeah, I know, just call me a dog. ;)

I dislike both of these guys so much I couldn’t decide who I wanted to lose more.

I totally missed watching the women’s final match, unfortunately. I will admit, though, that I find Azurenka’s (probably did NOT spell that correctly!) “shriek” to be particularly annoying. Anyone else think she sounds like one of the Three Stooges when she hits the ball? How do you even make that sound “spontaneously” as an assist to creating force? I get making a sound, but not THAT sound… It’s just silly.

A lot of the women shriek. The matches between Vika and Maria are particularly annoying.

I don’t mind the men grunting at all. Some I actually find very hot when they do it. Obviously neither Murray or Djoko fall in that category.

Murray’s confidence level was certainly up after winning at the OLympics. It was nice that we got to see a good men’s match that didn’t involve a Federer or Nadal.
