Usamo 2009

Hey. I am pretty sure that I have qualified for the 28 April Usamo. I am an international student. The thing is that i have already applied for the class of 2013. When will results of Aime come oyt?will i have time to notify the schools that i have applied to(harvard, princeton, yale?). Thank you.

P.S.(Anyways,is Usamo that important?Do all Usamo ppl get in ivies?)

I’m fairly sure AIME results won’t be out until the Ivies are already done with their decision-making.

Also, USAMO is not instant admission. There was a USAMO winner on CC who got rejected from Yale. I’m not sure about the other Ivies. Hopefully Harvard likes USAMO people more :D

Yes. The decisions will be made before the official results are announced.

ok…so i can only use it if i am waitlisted…

I don’t think you can qualify for USAMO as an international student, technically. You have to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

What you could do, though, is report an unofficial AIME score now. You have the answers you put down, and in a few days you’ll have the official answers. From that, get a score, and report it to schools. Make sure you tell them it’s unofficial, though.

you can qualify but not participate i have heard…

I got an unofficial 11 on Tuesday’s AIME; I just let colleges know about that.

when will aime results be announced?thanks

I think AIME results have already been released, because I already know my score. (v3rt’s 11 totally destroys my 3 but that’s okay :))

That said, I really don’t think that you can take the USAMO if you’re not from the USA.

This was quoted from the USAMO website: [United States of America Mathematical Olympiad - USAMO](http://www.unl.edu/amc/e-exams/e8-usamo/usamo.shtml)

^And 1991:

You can choose to report your AIME score and the fact that you could have participated in the USAMO had you been a US student (Personally, I sent my AIME score to the school that I was waitlisted at, even though I didn’t qualify for the USAMO). But all CCers must understand that qualifying for the USAMO alone will not get you into HYPMS. That said, it is a very impressive feat and amazing accomplishment that you should be proud of. You are among the 500 best high school mathematicians in the USA. Congrats!!!

USAMO > getting into an ivy

that is just sick. I struggle just to get a 1 on the AIME an 11 is insane. Actually I know a person who qualified for USAMO and then was rejected by Ivies and then other top schools. He ended up going to a state university. I am only saying that because it shows that qualifying for USAMO does not mean everything. Winning IMO though, i am pretty sure that is like auto acceptance into most top 20 universities (assuming you have solid GPA and SAT scores, etc.)

^I wish that the MAA would release official results soon, I got an unofficial 10 (after 2 addition errors D=), which should most likely be enough for USAMO (coupled with a 150 AMC).

Same here (I got a 3) … seriously, I just can’t understand how you can get a 11 (or a 10 for that matter, databox) on the AIME or a perfect score on the AMC!!

DataBox: The USAMO teachers’ manual says they’ll make the selection on or before April 10th, i.e. tomorrow. I would guess they’ll stick to that unless they have a really nasty situation to deal with (like different floors for AIME I and II).

From the news they just released for 2009, TJHSST tops the list again. There will be total of 10 sudents in class of 2010 titled USAMO qualifier… boy, what a competition among the class of itself!
2 of them are three times, 1 is two times.

So people like DataBox DO exist. =D

^Yea … scary isn’t it?

JK But I really admire their ability to think like that math-wise.
