USB Flash Drives

Can people help me with this problem? Sometimes, when I plug USB flash drives or something having to do with USB wires into my computer, my computer recognized they are plugged in. However, they wouldn’t appear on the My Computer page. Does anybody know how to make them appear?

Go to your My Computer screen: click on “View”, go to the bottom of that dialog box and click on “Refresh”.

That option isn’t working. My computer detects the USB drives, but they don’t appear on the My Computer screen. Can somebody help?

what usb drive are you using? size? brand? also what operating system are you using?

It’s not just any usb drive. It’s like whenever I plug in anything related to USB drives or wires, the computer detects it, but the drives don’t appear on the My Computer screen.

I would guess that there is a problem with your USB drivers.

I will assume you are using windows, so when you plug in your hardware, does it say “Your new hardware is installed and ready to use” on the bottom right?

My suggestiong would be to go to your computer maker’s support site and see if you can redownload the necessary USB drivers

Sometimes the USB drives mounted at the front of the CPU don’t always work. I have an old desktop at work like that.

Another issue is that some people don’t disconnect the drive using the screen icon (stopping the drive) before pulling it out. This can cause problems with your computer reading a USB drive the next time you plug it in. If the icon shows up and you have nothing plugged in, right click on it and try to disconnect whatever it shows as a spare drive. Also, if the computer has not been logged off or rebooted in a few days, you might want to try that.

A word of advice: USB devices (no matter what type) all carry an electrical current. Definitely do not connect or disconnect a device with wet hands. If at all possible, shut it down from the screen before disconnecting.
