actually at my school… theres a university tv station with a show called “Ginger Hunters.” Quite hilarious. They would interview gingers and ask them harmless questions. but then they would edit and splice the film and put their statements into really funny context

Thnx USCplease777,
I didn’t know USC comprises of 43% transfer students…that’s a huge number.
However, it’s no doubt that freshman do get priority over transfers, and I don’t think USC admissions or any college admissions is going to change that.
This does not mean that transfer students has the same amount of potential as freshman enterees, and they should be looked down upon. I suppose that the majority of us are late-bloomers. President Obama was a late bloomer, and a transfer student–look how he turned out.
But, it is true that [most of us] lost the first chance that was available in high school to take USC as our path. And, although we are granted with this second chance, it should not, or rather, is not [in most cases] as easy as our first one.
As far as readiness goes, we [most of us] all know, and should accept that we are a little behind those that got into USC as freshman and are in Junior level standing. It requires a little more motivation, and work to catch up (which of course is 100% possible)–that is the small price we pay.
Such claim that transfer students are “dumber” is preposterous, since IQ has nothing to do with whether you started out early, or a little late.

I don’t think transfer students are “behind” anyone. A lot of us took different paths than the “normal” one for very good reason, and might even be considered better off in ways than a freshman admit. If we all arrive at the same place it doesn’t matter how we got there.

Don’t mean to come off too defensive, I just don’t want to see us all sell ourselves short.

@Radredhead

“I think i was told once that a 4.0 at a CC was “worth more” than a 3.5 at a 4-year school. I personally kind of am upset by this. I know I sound pretentious or whatever, but seeing as I already go to a top 50 university, I just feel that my coursework is much more rigorous than what I would be getting at my CC.”

I TOTALLY agree with you on that. That’s why you have to push for the best.

I’ve never been to CC before, neither have I taken a class in USC–so I really should not support either side. I take back my previous claim about Transfers being in a disadvantage to current USC students.

i go to a CCC right now and i have to admit GE classes here resemble my high school classes lol

imo maybe its because i took some AP and honor classes. it’s also a matter of what professor you have and that’s why i love ratemyprofessors :)

overall i think CCC classes are easier than most universities

k so i’ve decided that if the average gpa last year was 3.65 and if 64% of usc transfers are from CCCs, then there certainly must be hope for 4-year transfers with GPA’s below 3.6

:)

i hope that motivates all u fellow 4year people! (such as myself)

I don’t think that USC cares whether you are CC transfer or 4 year instate, outofstate, since it is a private university. It is just that the largest portion of transfers who apply are from CC.
No hate for CC, but I was sort of angry to find out that CC’s got priority over me for UC admissions. I really did not understand that concept, since I am a instate transfer as well.
I’m glad that USC doesn’t favor CC over 4-years.

I mean I pay the same Californian Tax as CCC’s, why do they get priority? It’s probably since CCCers are particular trained to transfer (and that is their only option), as other students in 4 years are not.

tha4nsw3r- i don’t think the CCC’s i’ve been to are anything like the AP classes i took in high school. the high school teachers were our babysitters and if i had known about middle college sooner, i definitely would have chosen that option. i had a couple of good teachers, but most of them were idiots who just needed money. it would have been nice if i had an english teacher who could actually speak the language! high school was mostly busy work for me

i love ratemyprofessors too. is there another site like that for USC? there aren’t many ratings for the USC professors on ratemyprofessor

loll you guys are too funny, if you guys go into these statistics and trends any further you’ll drive yourselves insaneee…

@ klim and uscplease

that convocation thing was HILARIOUS! lol, she sent it out to too many people, and didn’t notify those people till like 5 days after…I imagine that they had probably already told everyone, including their family and everything lol…but we all got 3.9s and above, so we’re all good

seriously, you guys post faster than bunnies reproduce…
i cant keep up! i just try to get in a post every night so i know where i left off reading your stuff
haha

i have 7 more days of school, 6 more tests, 2 more papers, 3 more homeworks and no motivation! woohoooooo!!

as for the CC vs 4years discussion, well i believe that CC’s are most likely easier than some 4 years, BUT, like someone pointed out, everyone isnt groomed from an early age to get 4.0s… i was one of those that were, like on a physics test in 11th grade, i thought id gotten a B, and after the test, i skipped the rest of school and called my dad while i was walking home, almost crying …
so ridiculous…
im just regretting i went to this piece of **** school instead of something good, like at least top 40, which i would have made it into with my hs grades… ■■■… what a waste… well anyway, im hoping itll work out now :P

zamela- is the high salary of teachers the reason you think they do it for money? anyways… it really depends on what kind of high school you go to. cause, just like colleges, some are going to be more difficult than others.

wow… this thread is great!! I feel kind a bad too heh…since my stat is way below you guys… I guess no hope for me for Marshall @_@

Hey I’m at a CCC and while a couple of my classes have been incredibly easy, I sought some of the more rigorous classes with difficult teachers to prep for a 4 yr and so I’m working my ass off to keep a 4.0…I took some classes at Stanford one summer and, for example, the International Organizations class I took there was easier than the Comparative Politics class I am taking now at a CCC. I agree some CCCers could just take pretty easy classes with easy professors and thus get high GPAs without much work, but I’m sure plenty who want to transfer to competitive 4-yrs like USC work damn hard by taking challenging courses. Just thought I would stand up for the CCCers on here…

good to kno

So, this is my status. It is like a mixture of the old status and the committee has acted upon you application one. Didn’t someone else have this same status as well? Perhaps they cannot have acted upon my application yet because I am having document submission issues with the financial aid office. Damn, this status kinda worries me…
