rad… tell your dad its USC and maybe take out the graduate employment placement for newly graduates or something.

@Rad - USC can’t be beat in terms of film literacy and networking opportunities. Critical Studies is often a launchpad for students to move on to Graduate-level studies in a specialized field. Also, you can get internships at various animation houses throughout Southern California during your summer breaks. Location is a major part of getting your foot in the door in any business. It’s hard to meet the major players in L.A. when you live in Chicago. The same can be said for any type of industry-based internships or networking opportunities.

If I want to become an advertising executive on Madison Avenue, I’d better get my ass on a plane to New York, because I’d be hard-pressed to land interviews and network with the right people from my little apartment in Torrance, CA. An even better option would be for me to go to school at a university that consistently produces the newest and brightest talent going into the advertising world - a university where my talents will be showcased to the top recruiters in my chosen field.

I hope this analogy helps.

Watch and study these videos, and build a solid, fact-based defense on your own behalf. Show your dad that you are passionate about this. Explain to him that USC isn’t just some wild-eyed little girl’s whimsical dream. Explain to him why USC makes good business sense.

what airborne said =P

Thanks so much for all that info airborne! I will call the Student-Industry Relations office tomorrow and also talk to them, and make sure my dad is nearby to hear.

I am very confident that USC will lead me to a career path like no other. I just got to convince everyone else of this too!

Plus, I was thinking of switching to film studies from animation for a long while, or at least double majoring in it, so the fact that I got in this program isn’t drastically changing my life goals C:
