USC 2009 transfer thread

@Santa Monica: SCA doesn’t release any stats. You can apply for spring as an internal USC student, but there’s no telling what your chances are going to be (you can only apply for spring if you have already enrolled at USC, there is no spring admission for external transfer applicants). You may want to call the SCA Admissions Office to ask them what your chances are.

I would assume it’s just as competitive to get in as an internal applicant (e.g., there are less people to compete against, but there are fewer slots available, and a lot of the internal applicants are already minoring in something within SCA, so they have a better shot of getting in).

Either way, your materials are due on September 1 as an internal applicant for Production, Critical Studies, or Interactive Media. You may want to revisit your supplemental materials and make changes as you see fit. Also, the supplemental requirements have changed for Production. You must now include visual materials (either a photo-story or a video) as well as the writing samples that were part of last year’s supplemental materials.

I have a friend who was in a similar position. He got into USC three years ago as an undecided major, but he didn’t want to go unless it was for Production. He turned down the offer and applied again the following year. He was rejected again, and applied a third time. He was rejected all three times. He now has a collection of rejection letters and no degree. Alternatively, he could have accepted the offer and majored in a related field while minoring in something within SCA. He would now have a BA in Whatever, and he would be able to apply to the MFA in Production program, with the added benefit of having met and worked with SCA faculty while minoring within SCA. Think about it.

Thank you so much for all of the info! I think my chances of applying as an internal Spring Admit are much better than competing with all of the Fall applicants. I tried to get some numbers out of SCA but they said none were available for Spring semester. Who knows, maybe my appeal will be successful and I won’t even need to reapply!

Marco - It was a good theory while it lasted! Here’s hoping Monday brings some changes…

16000++ posts!!! wow…

Oh my goodness!
I got a letter yesterday saying that my first choice major, Animation and Digital Arts, wanted to put me on a waitlist for fall '09. I have to reply before June 30, but it’s a weekend and my response won’t get there in time! :C

What happened is that they mailed it to my dorm address, and then it had to be forwarded home. Ahhh, please Monday, come faster so I can make some phone calls!

IN OTHER NEWS
Unless USC gives me a generous financial aid appeal I am going to have to withdraw. They also “demoted” me to sophomore standing (I’m a junior) because most of my credits aren’t transferring over. BOO. D:<

oh no rad!! i hope they give you a really awesome fin. aid package! it would be cool to have another lake county local at USC (well…if i’m accepted, lol).

i feel like my panic attacks are becoming more and more frequent, lol. today needs to go by a little quicker so the committee can get back to making decisions!! there has to be at least ONE acceptance this week! last week was a dud for all of us!! i’m starting to think i should think about what i would write for an appeal…but i don’t want to think that way! i wish the committee could see this thread and see how dedicated we are! :expressionless:
i’m running out of things to say here, but i want to keep on talking about USC, lol.

yes, i got a spring grade request and now my transfer gpa is a 3.9…what do spring grade requests usually get in?

marco thats good that you care so much  i actually think a very good percentage of the transfers in this thread, REALLY cared about USC, so thats really good :)

i hope you guys get a decision this week, must be really tough having to wait this long =/ my best advice is to get out and just do stuff, all the time :stuck_out_tongue: so you dont think about it… i remember the last few days before i got accepted, i like barely even though about it at all because i was out with friends constantly and stuff  needless to say, the acceptance was like the diamond cherry on top of my happy sundae ;D

Sounds good, ns. :)

I really hope the rest of us SGRs left hear this week.
I have a good feeling at least one of us will hear this week as well!

I have a midterm today that I totally didn’t even study for because I was too busy worrying.

what a bummer.

Update!

We have received the spring grades requested by the committee. We will be forwarding your file for further review very soon. For students submitting spring grades, we typically mail final decisions by mid-July.

For people who got this status - how long did it take for them to forward the file?

Yeah Amorrison, I’ve had that since June 2nd and they still haven’t updated my status. Pretty annoying if you ask me but worth the wait! Yes one of us better hear this week! I’m sure you’ll do fine on your midterm Glor :D.

College - Darn! Oh well, hopefully both of us will get a change soon.

I’m pretty scared.
my midterm is at 11!! O_____O

I heard a few people at pcc and gcc have gotten accepted from USC last week!!
(and they were SGRs too!!)
'l;kasjfasf when are they gonna tell usssssss?

well, at least mid july is coming up.

ahah! GLOR<3! that’s funny because I read somewhere finaid appeals weren’t going to be reviewed until beginnings of July. And I was like OH NO!!! And then: oh wait a minute. July starts on Wednesday… haha!

And so begins the obsessive status checking… I’ve hit refresh too many times this morning.

Okay I’m somewhat worried because I’ve been out since the first week of May and they still havent made a decision on my app. PCC students got out way later than we did and they already received decisions? I greatly worry that because we’re still waiting that means we’re rejected since rejections come out last out of the group…

collegehopeful are you from GCC? :)

and are you serious??? But midjuly isn’t even here yet!!!:((
I don’t want to be rejected!

nope not from gcc i’m from a private school ahaha.
