USC 2009 transfer thread

Will it decrease my chances if I apply undeclared as a junior transfer? I mean, I put sppd as first choice on part I of the app, but I’m thinking, maybe I might wanna change it… And I heard that it’s frowned upon to have undecided applicants who are transferring as juniors… advice?

Thank you!

any body know the age limit for dorm at usc? pm me if you know cuz this is such a popular thread i might never find my post again. lol

Transferable GPA: 3.76

Legacy: none, first gen.
Applying to: Marshall - business administration

current school: 42 units @ Irvine Valley College
All Pre-Req classes will be completed by Spring 2010

What do you guys think?

^^^What are the grades for your pre-reqs? If theyre A’s I would say you have a good shot

Thanks so much to everyone who has posted in here thus far.

I will be applying for Fall 2010, right now with a 4.0 GPA a 2200 on the SAT and will have [at the time of application] an AA in Business Administration. I have no ECs from college, but several from High School [where I graduated with a 3.6].

What are my chances of acceptance?
And what are the chances I have for scholarships [as USC is VERY expensive, and I am in need of all the money I can get.]

I plan on transferring as a Business or Economics major. If accepted I know that USC allows you to study in their Film Production program as a minor without having to apply to the film school. Anyone have any information in regards to that?

Thanks so much for any help you can give me!

archieg,
yes- if you have 64 units or more, do not apply undeclared. What’s deterring you from SPPD? The undergraduate program is exactly what they say it is. It’s a great place to be.

grey, do you know what the avg. stats are for sppd by any chance?

Is it true that they’re lower, since it is a newer school?

Because I should have a 3.6 and 55 units by the end of the fall if I do well, and am worried like crazy that I won’t get at least a SGR… or worse, will get rejected again!!!

Do you have any sppd advice?

Thank you so much, and it’s good to see you again!

They don’t publish the avg. stats unfortunately (I frantically looked when I was considering the school myself). Despite that, I know that the avg. GPA is definitely NOT lower because its a newer school. The truth is that SPPD is a very very old school – only the name is new. The school has been around for 81 years… [SPPD Facts - USC School of Policy, Planning, and Development](http://www.usc.edu/schools/sppd/about/facts.html)

If you have those many units and that GPA, you probably will not get an SGR, unless you’re still taking a pre-req. Even then, I was taking 2 pre-reqs in the spring, and only had 44 units by the end of fall, and I still got a straight acceptance.

As far as advice goes, all that I can offer is get the best grades that you are capable of, make sure you have finished the pre-reqs (macro+microecon, finite math or pre-calculus), and have started working on classes that articulate to satisfy the USC general education curriculum. What do your extracurriculars look like?

Well, I was in a club last spring, and I had a job in high school. I am currently volunteering at my mom’s doctor’s office a couple hours a week, where I help with patients, specifically the old ones: bringing them up (as the office is on the fifth and top floor), taking them down, escorting them to their cars, and I organize files, regular type office work a little.

I am trying to score an internship with Warner Bros. right now, so I don’t know if SPPD will like that or see that as a plus lol

Also, I got an A in macroecon, a B in microecon, and will be taking the Math requirement in the spring… so that could mean SGR, huh?

Thank you! And btw… did you take any pre-reqs the spring before transfer?

Also, what are the job prospects like for a sppd undergrad?

What kind of jobs can you get?

Hi all I just signed up for this because I saw it was helpful for other transfer students. My name is Nichole and I am trying to transfer to either USC for Communication or Public Relations. I have my associates degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology graduating with an overall GPA of a 3.3. However, I just finished 12 units at Cal State LA and I have a 3.8 there. I am worried about my chances of getting into USC Anneberg because I heard it is very competitive. Could anyone give me some suggestions or pointers about transferring? Thanks so much! : )

I had some trouble finding stats on how competitive transfer admission to Viterbi is. Does anyone have some solid information on this?

Any SPPD advice? ANYONE? lol

I just realized that there are 2 USC threads going on. This one is from last year, Fall 2009, so I’m going to close it. Please continue this discussion on the Fall 2010 thread:
