USC 2009 transfer thread

aam90- really spring admit with a 3.34??
okay I am happy with that
I will still be ecstatic if I get spring admit lol

and zircushio-I say just call them and tell them your situation and they can tell you what to do (if you can do anything) but I dont think foreign language affects you (I know you don’t need it for SPPD) since you are in science, but im not sure

CaptainRodeo - that’s right. Things are kinda out of your hands now as far as transfer admissions go. I’m sure they’ll understand your decision on taking the foreign language there when accepted. By the way your GPA is outstanding.

Thanks MakeBank. Although things are out of my hands, I would call them to tell them why I didn’t take the language- but that may not help, it may, or they make not like it. I’m sure they won’t want to hear my excuse for why I didn’t take the language… see, now I dont know what to do lol.

apparently science needs 3 semesters of a foreign language to complete! :0
i called and left a message but will call a different department in a few minutes, i’ll let you guys know the updates!

awesomeeeeeeeeeee if you speak a language not taught on campus, you can sign up for a process that you can take a test that occurs once every 6 months for that language you DO know, and if you pass it, it takes care of the requirement.

i asked if you can take it more than once, just in case you bomb, and she said shes not quite sure, but thinks its a one time thing since you are after all signing up for a 6 month wait to take the test.

so basically the summary:

If you know a language thats not taught at USC, you sign up to have an exam given to you that USC does not teach that occurs once every 6 months. If you pass it, it takes care of your language requirement. :)

Guys-

Check out this pdf… the programs with the tiny cardinal “fl” next to them require foreign language. I’ve been obsessing over this pdf for like 3 years, haha.

Hello,

anyone applied to the film production program? if so, what are your stats like (GPA etc.)
trying to get a feel at what i’m up against…

3.34 gpa (planning on going up after spring semester is over, like 3.5)
tons of outside experience–internships, volunteer, personal projects, outside courses, etc.
my personal essay is the only thing im kind of worried about, i’m slowly realizing its too general, but that could be because i’m just over analyzing everything now… it is more philosophical i guess, talking about the kind of life i want to live/create for myself and reflect that into my films.

also my character profile wasn’t much of anything special to me either, i used it because it ended up answer the questions they were asking… :frowning: blah, i’m pretty low on confidence right now… as you can tell

Anyone else like to share? :-)

haha me too

I realized that USC doesn’t have a lot of pre recs (unless you are in a science). Looking at the UCs (or even the Cal States) they require a lot more!

geyser, many of the successful film transfers in the past have been in the GPA range of 3.7-3.9. :(

^ LOL

oh god, i can only imagine what kind of cancer curing evil scientist i’m gonna be with a 3.6-3.7 GPA :0

grey syntactic, i’ve actually never met a transfer, so you may be right since its a rare thing, but people from high school got in with 3.2-3.5 gpa range…

would you happen to know any additional information about the film transfers you met as far as experience goes outside of school and stuff?

guys, on a sidenote, i STRONGLY suggest you guys read “I hope they serve beer in Hell”

go to any barnes and noble or bookstore around there and pick it up and read it.

you might be asking yourselves, “why zircushio, would we read that book?”

Well in a short succinct sentence: It’s because that will be our lives come Fall 2009.

When should transfers expect their decision letter? Close to April 1st or closer to June? I sent all my stuff in around January.

close to june

i have no idea how that happened… psychic much? :P

MattG728-- Expect notification late may - early june and into late july.

zircushio, that is one of my favorite books lol. sooo crazy.

hahahahah i can’t even tell how how i just read 100 pages in the last hour because i can’t put it down  but i have a chem quiz tomorrow

i’m so over this semester, BRING ON USC!

July? Jesus Christ… Ughhh

MattG728 - it’s an even longer wait for the applicants who receive a SGR
