USC 2010 Transfer Thread

TROJANS!!!

@Kulakai

Out of curiosity, when were you contacted?

@happydk - On the day my status changed(last wed). However, it wasn’t for a good reason. I had to clear up a discrepancy on my app that was not my fault. You don’t want them to have to contact you when they are reviewing apps :)

Sorry bout the repeated ques…but just wanted more opinions…

Here are my stats/EC’s(currently in Santa Monica College)…

I’ve completed about 30qtr units. Do they weigh your SAT/HS record at all when you apply as a transfer with more than 30sem units(which I will be doing since I’ll be applying with about 90qtr units)??

Stats:
College GPA-4.0
HS GPA -till grade 11-4.0
grade 12- 3.0(rough calculation, British syllabus)
SAT - 1350/1600,1900/2400(700-M 650-CR 550-W)

EC’s:
Captain varsity basketball team(top 3 in nation where I lived)+ numerous individual awards
Community Service approx. 150 hours
Student Gov’t Member
Written articles for magazines,newpapers etc
Quiz Club member(finalist/winner in many quizzes,appeared on tv as a semi finalist in a quiz too)
Coached HS basketball

Hopefully I’ll have a 4.0 by the time of my application with 62 or so semester units.

Just wanted to know if anyone could give me an idea of best/worst case scenario that I can expect for fin.aid next year(applying for Fall '11). Assume I can’t pay anything. I am an international transfer student looking to major in Econ…perhaps major/minor in Econ/Kinesiology.

Thanks for the help guys!

@MEGUCT It’s kind of hard to say…You might not be considered international because you live in America, which would actually be better for you, since USC isn’t too kind to int’l students when it comes to financial aid

well, I’ve only lived in the US for a little bit and I’m still on my F1 visa so I think I would still be considered an intl yes??

but assume they consider me an international, what could I expect(best case scenario)?

I just got an fin aid email too saying I need to submit more things. Wonder if its a good or bad thing

@NicoleB

Did you submit the profile and FAFSA on time? I wonder why I got this email when I turned everything in on time. Well, looks like a phone call is in order.

I would assume it’s neither.

@meguct if you’re international…little to nothing

@meguct I know that you’re just really curious and anxious about finding how much aid you will get, and I wouldn’t necessarily rely on people on this forum (not to say none of their info is inaccurate) for that information as most of us are not international students, your best shot is to simply call the USC financial aid office and find out, I am sure they can give you a clear cut direct answer to what you’re looking for.

@brianlee
I am pretty sure my mom turned everything in on time. But literally on the deadline.

Hahaha. Yea I guess that might be it then. What I mean by “on time” is a day before it was due. Well, looks like we still have to call them though.

Did you guys send in your Financial aid forms? I literally brought them in…no trust in the USPS :)

I brought in the returns, faxed in the w-2 forms, and the FAFSA/profile are self explanatory. My receipts for the FAFSA/profile both confirm USC being listed, but I don’t understand how they don’t have it on file.

Could just be a mistake…it happens with 9500 transfer applicants

@ brianlee

The same thing happened to me. Apparently, they didn’t get my social although I did submit it. They had my FAFSA and CSS floating around in their system for two months. As soon as they got my social, they created the link and downloaded them.

i got the email because I never did the CSS profile (dont want to pay :/) but i guess I have to

but remember financial aid has NOTHING to do with admissions

I have been emailed in the past before about financial aid and in the end got rejected (with usc)

A while back they said they were missing mine/my parents tax returns when I’m sent faxed them it; I just faxed them in again. I don’t want to take any chances, ya know?

@happydk that happened to me too! Im guessing it’s already a mistake on their part. Perhaps their system is really screwed up or something. The phone people at USC don’t help either for they only give out general instructions about financial aid and stuff. Is it possible that they are just students who work the phones? I’ve been meaning to talk to a legit financial aid officer because i have a unique situation regards my eligibility for financial aid. I live about 45 mins away from SC, should i just go all the way over there to get my questions answered?

its quiet tonight.
