USC 2010 Transfer Thread

@budlightyear - post back with an answer! cuz i wanna take summer classes too…USC is too much $ haha

I registered for summer classes just in case the unfortunate happens because I need to take spanish 1 and 2 over the summer for either U of Oregon or U of Arizona which are my back-up schools.

Im sure you can take classes over the summer at a CC but you just need to let the registrar know so that they can clear you and you can get still get credit. I know thats how it is at Arizona.

My D wasn’t informed of her acceptance as a transfer until late July (she was a spring, 2nd semester sophomore CLAS admit). She continued to take classes at her OOS CC until she started school in January at USC. If you have questions about your specific situation, you should speak with your USC Counselor. She always conferred with the USC counselor about which courses would transfer and nearly all did.

@Dainese - I hear that! Sure will, buddy.

Thank you, HImom!

Just submitted my A I received in my short-term Macro class. My girlfriend and I are still waiting for status updates =/

good job on your A rhandler! Don’t worry, I heard that a few transfer applicants from last year waited towards the end of April before their statuses changed. Yours will eventually change pretty soon.

Question #1: Does anyone know if USC financial aid will take into consideration large income differences? (When compared to previous years).
I was working full time/not in school during early-mid 2009, and received a taxable bonus which boosted up my income for the year. Compared to my previous year’s income, the difference is quite large.

My main point with this is because I am not making anything close to the amount I did last year (I also did not make anything close to it in 2008). I do not want to miss out on financial aid that I should/could be getting.

Question #2: How difficult is it to change majors within a school? In my case, I want to switch majors within CLAS (Sociology to Political Science).

@foodmunkee thank you! I think I’m checking my status way too often haha

@Brianlee I’m not sure about question 1 but question 2–a few alumni have told me the first meeting you have with your counselor, tell them what you want to do and they will help you make it possible.

Finally got the status update!

Hey guys I have a quick question.I’m a freshman at a california community college and am wondering what u think my chances are. My major is polisci/history, I’m done with all my GE’s, have a 3.82 GPA and will have 34 units by the end of spring.

@trojanfan - id say your chances are looking good. keep up the GPA. did you apply this fall? if you did you will probably get a SGR (spring grades request)

but if your applying next year with that kind of GPA or higher. your good :)

@trojanfan13 have you taken any classes for your major?>

Finally got this update

“We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1.”

I applied to the School of Policy, Planning and Development.

Once again I’m sorry to interrupt this thread, but I receive better answers from this forum than the answers USC gives me through emails. Haha.

Since I’m out of state and there is no articulation agreement with my community college I have taken the advice of you guys and have gone to the articulation website to model my schedule. I plan to major in Business Administration/International Relations. I modeled my schedule through DeAnza College, as it was of the ones listed in the Brochure. My questions seem to arise from the course numbering system.

I already know about the pre-requirements such as :
**
ECON 203 (Principles of Microeconomics)
ECON 205 (Principles of Macroeconomics)
MATH 118 (Fundamental Principles of the Calculus)
(MATH 125 will substitute for MATH 118.)
**
On the planning guide it’s also telling me to complete Math218 which I guess is Statistics for Management and Economics. I was wondering if Principles of Statistics will satisfy that requirement. Also, I have to complete WRIT130 which I have no idea what class that would be comparable too. The GE is another thing, but that’s for another day.

Once again thanks for the information. It is helpful when it comes to planning.

Yep I got the status update today as well. Sweet! I know it doesn’t mean anything but it still eases a bit of the anxiety.

@dbroncos if you call in and give them your school name they are more then likely to do a transfer plan with you over the phone. I know they did that to one of my friends transferring from Syracuse.

@dbroncos23 Those are the pre-requisites for transfering for our year, but Marshall has changed their basic program beginning with students entering in the 2010-2011 Catalogue year. Therefore, make sure you check back with Marshall as to what their new prerequisites are because I know that students at USC no longer have to take Econ 203, Econ 205, or Math 218 - and as such the difference between their bus stats and your stats is irrelevant… I suggest you sit and wait until Marshall updates their course requirnments before you start planning anything other than the 4 GEs, Diversity, Writing, and Language courses…

WHOO HOO!!! I FINALLY GOT AN UPDATE! It seems like several of us have today! What is everyones stats that got an update? I posted mine several pages ago: Freshman, 4.0 GPA, 3/4 pre-reqs completed, final one in progress, 21 units completed, 19 in progress, will have every GE and pre req done after Spring…this update just made my day  even though it probably means nothing

Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2010)
We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1.

@LagunaSC

Really? Thanks a lot man. Definitely saved me the time and hassle. By any chance, would you happen to know when these changes would be implemented?

@dbroncos23 Sorry, I havent a clue. And when I talked to Marshall on the phone, I didn’t think about asking such a question since its no longer anything I have to deal with. You could call/email and ask them though, incase they happen to know what they are suggesting but are waiting to put it online for some reason…
