USC 2010 Transfer Thread

@xdzzzrawr - I know they are reviewing mine and I got a status change. As much as people on here want to try to figure out a method as to the order people are being reviewed, I am pretty sure everyone is now being looked at, it is just a matter of where yours is in regards to the giant pile. Some are at the top, middle, and bottom. /shrug

does anyone know how many LOR’s are too many? I have like five from teachers, donators/alumni, and UBS Wealth Management(where I interned); do you think they’ll get mad at too many? haha

Generally two is the ideal amount. Unless additional letters say something beneficial that was unsaid in the first two, it is a waste of time because you are just making them read more than necessary.

thanks as always kulakai for your responses, always makes me feel a bit better, even though I still don’t have a status update haha, hopefully soon though!

@rhandler yea like kulakai said, 2 is the ideal amount, I sent in 2 from my English professors which I was able to work on it with them and read the final product, even though you’re not really supposed to, they wanted my recs to be the best as possible since all they’re doing is trying to help me get to USC and I was very satisfied with their level of praise and regard as well as the quality of the letters. But if all 5 of your recs are fairly strong and written eloquently, though it may seem a bit too many, it will help you and not hurt you and that is IF the quality of the recs are high.

I stress that because if you have someone who wrote a letter of rec and has poor grammar or in-eloquent writing, then the admissions may not look at it as a reliable source just judging by the rec’s writing strengths. I do have to add that getting donators and alumni to write your rec isn’t too helpful if they are simply an acquaintance of yours, but your intern and teacher recs seem viable, better if your teachers are college professors though, anyway just throwing ideas out there, I may not be correct with all of my assertions.

Just made a little fix to my status haha

I feel like everyone is getting a status change??? And not me and I probably applied before everyone (mid November). Should I call? I emailed and they said everything was okay but still! Bahhhh. Or am I overreacting?

@daisy - You’ll be fine! It’s really too early to get worried.

@ daisydaisy

For your reassurance, just call them one time. Hear it for yourself. I think after they tell you your file is complete, you’ll have more peace of mind.

@Everyone - Remember that most people generally don’t hear decisions until a couple weeks into May. They literally just started looking at transfer apps a couple weeks ago and there are what, 9K+ of them?

If you read through the transfer thread from the last two years you’ll see not everyone had their app looked at beginning on the same day/week/month even. Just cause one person gets looked at earlier than you doesn’t mean they’re more likely to get in.

Obsessing over the status change is just gonna make everyone die from anxiety :)

(Yes I’ll continue to say this until people chill out lol)

I don’t have a status update either…it’s really nothing to fret about because everyone will eventually get one and everyone will eventually get accepted/denied/an SGR…the hard thing is waiting

I just received a status update today, yet I find myself still checking as if it’s going to change to “the committee has acted upon your application…” haha. Oh man does this wait suck- only 6 more weeks or less!!

@kulakai- lol, nobody is gonna chill out until all the decisions are done and over with. lol, cmon you should know this.

but yea, I know what you mean though. Status updates are annoying.

does anyone know the odds of getting in if someone gets an SGR?

fight onnnnn for ol scccc

Interesting fact of usc for the day: Usc were not always the trojans, they used to be the methodists. At one point we even had a dog named george tirebiter, for his tire biting antics, as our mascot. There is now a statue of george at usc and ironically he died from being ran down by a car. Rip :)

i got a status update!! pllllllllllllz usc if your reading this accept me!!! i am destined for greatness

@daisydaisy: im on the same boat as you; my status has been the “thank you for applying, yadda yadda” since i applied. its really starting to freak me out.

but whats making me freak out even more right now is that i am no longer able to login to USCConnect! it keeps telling me i have the incorrect username/password, though i know 100% that neither of them are wrong…it worked yesterday!

-freaks out-

Hi all, I’m new to the forums here. I’ve read most of your posts and see that all of you are die hard USC to the core like myself. I was wondering if you guys could help me out and tell me my chances, also some advice on sending more information. My stats are…

Age: 24
Ethnicity: White (Italian/Cherokee Indian)
G.P.A.: 3.4

I was a business major but decided to apply as History and/or S.P.P.D. then switch once i’m in the school to business…

Basically my question is I know my grades suck… but basically the platform that I applied on was my determination/persistence essay and my work experience… I was the top salesman of a 100 person company, I made the company over a million bucks and myself made 100K… I didn’t put how much I made in the application because I felt it would look tacky, but I did put that I was the team leader of the 10 man “sales squad”. What do you guys think my chances are? I appreciate anything you all can offer… Fight On!

Err… I was #5 outa 100, and #1 in individual sales

well you’ll get i with history probably, but your plan to switch over to marshall may not work. but i would think because of your ethnicity you may have a good chance to switch over. But i think you will get accepted.

how many units do u have completed? all major pre-reqs done for both history and business?

what will make you stand out is the whole money factor but if youve made that much money already why not forget school and continue doing your job…100k is a lotta money! LOL
