USC 2010 Transfer Thread

I talked to an admissions counselor during one of those USC transfer days and they said it’s fair game for everyone. Only UC’s give priority to CC applicants.

@cd- I dont think its necessarily priority, I think its more just that a huge amount of california CC people apply and thus the ratio is just really one sided as a result.

UCLA classes are obviously typically a TON harder than most CC courses, however, I also strongly believe that over the course of the past two years, I have put in more hours a week studying and have had more dedication than most of the people in the UC system…lol, well, until this last couple weeks at least. :-p

I know I wasn’t trying to slander anyone or do anything like that. I just hope it doesn’t go against me that I am transferring from where I am.

@cd720 - As mentioned, state schools sometimes have a preference due to transfer agreements for cc students. As usc is private, everyone is on an even playing field.

^ @cd720 i second that

@cd- lol, its all good man. I know what you mean.

hmm anyone know the answer to my question? =(
if i transfer from a quarter system CC
do I need to send in my last quarter(winter) grade to USC since my spring quarter just started? is there a strict rule about it like they wont process my application if I dont sent it in?

@ kielyy-- I’m on the quarter system. I mailed my winter quarter grades out this past week. I don’t think you’re required to send them but it can’t hurt.

@cd720 and others, Touching on the CC vs University subject, there is indeed an even playing field and no one gets any priority over one another, however, like others have said, it is up to your overall stats and presentation in your application. They wont look at hard-hitting numbers like a 4.0 at a CC vs a 3.6 at UCLA, they WILL Take into account the difficulty of the university, as it is quite logical to assume courses are UCLA are generally much tougher than say at a CC. If you attain a 3.6 at UCLA you are def at the top of your class, since I am sure USC knows the ridiculous curve and C grade/ 2.5-2.7 GPA expectancy at UCLA, however, a CC student can shine just as well with his or her essay and how he or she answered the short-answers and essay more adequately than a UCLA student, it all really depends on many factors, and not just measuring GPA and numbers together. I am quite confident that USC is very reasonable in their decision making for acceptances/rejections, they aren’t as ridiculous and hard-hitting like the UCs or Ivey League colleges that often look at stats alone to set the curve and judge from there. USC takes into account troubles you may have that if you explain why you received a W or didn’t do so well during a period of time, so just keep all these things in mind.

@kielyy I am on a quarter system as well and sent my winter grades 3 weeks ago because I had a prereq for Marshall, if you have a prereq you had to fulfill in winter to meet a requirement for USC, you really NEED to send it in, but if you think your winter grades may possibly hinder you from being accepted, then I would hold off on sending it unless they ask for it, as they are already reviewing applications at this time and it takes around 2 weeks from the time you send it in for them to actually receive/process it.

Jealous of all you Viterbi’ers who already got in…I’m a Viterbi applicant and my status is still "We are reviewing your application. Sometimes we require additional information, so be sure to respond to any requests promptly. Transfer applicants are notified of their admission, or of a request for more information by June 1. " Boo!

don’t be jealous. i don’t even have that status yet

I m missing one english and one math class probably.
I got a A for english but what hurts is the F for math…I was never good at math and I almost have to retake every math class I ever take throughout highschool to college to get it pass…

Does anyone see the status: “We have received your application. We require additional information.” - They needed to see an additional transcript in which I have sent in over 2 weeks ago…

@spada - a lot of ppl still have that status. make sure u check your documents needed. if theres nothing then your good. if it STILL shows you need another transcript, maybe wait another week then call. right now its probably really hectic and messy.

@cd - just curious, why UCLA to USC??? Aside from the fact that USC is better. jk jk. i kid.

@SouthOCtrojan

Oh it’s the latter, which I’m guessing is the not-so-special one. Oh well.

you’re in the USC thread dainese, dont be scared!

hahahaha, nah i respect both school lol. BUT WHOS TO SAY IM SCARED OF A LITTLE RIVAL ACTION?

sorry but USC students are def not scared. after all according to UCLA students we study in the “ghetto”

@rawflmao- yea, we’re all looking the “comittee is reviewing” or “comittee has acted on” ones. Thats when it gets REALLY interesting…

…did no one get a “comittee” type status change today? that’s really disappointing. USC is such a tease. she gets me all excited and hoping for something and yet, doesnt put out, yet again. :-(

lol dainese, you gotta hand it to them though, the area around UCLA is a lot nicer than the area around USC. :p
