USC 2010 Transfer Thread

It’s completely unbearable…I can’t wait to get a sweet package from USC!

Got this status now:“We are unable to process the status of your application at this time. Please try again later, or Contact Us with any questions or concerns you might have.” What should I do now? Is there any chance I can still be accepted without SGR?

bah thats terrible. how many years you been there?

yeah man, me too. i check my mail like every day and hold my breath, though i know there’s nothing there because my status is still at the “we have received…”

How the hell am I supposed to sleep with my current status?! It’s not going to work!

@striker: im not totally sure, but i think a few people got that status right before it was changed to the SGR status.

@jcarroll: who needs sleep?! haha keep yourself entertained with something. youtube always works for me :]

@usc10

yess i’m applying as a soph!

@veggiechips It’s my third year…I pretty much screwed up my first, then decided to turn my life around and essentially “restart” college(repeated all the classes I screwed up in and got an A).

Not sure if anyone can answer this but I can’t seem to get a straight answer from anyone about what my grades should look like for Spring semester at my CC. I have a 3.8 with no C’s and no W’s. I haven’t received admissions notice yet, but i’m considering dropping my Macro Economics class because i’m not doing very well. Is anyone else in a similar situation? Or can anyone tell me if they know anything about Spring semester grades?

@sweetestdream Oh, cool! Philosophy, nice. I’ve heard so many great things about the philosophy classes at SMC. Wow, that’s impressive! I’m finishing the USC GE’s this semester: I’m taking Geology 4, History 1, Psych 11 Scholars, and Italian 1. Did you apply to any other schools for next semester? As for me, it’s USC or bust haha. :P

@jocelyn did u call after u had the status change to “commitee is reviewing”?

no when I checked earlier today it was on the one most people have
but when I check now (after the phone call) it says “committee is reviewing”

@silvergirl2
who are you taking geology with??

ahh well good luck then, i applied to UCLA and Cal & i got accepted to UCLA and waiting on Cal this friday and hopefully i hear back from USC this week even though its my #1

i really hope we both make it in!

they should totally make an app for CC lol

Since getting denied from UNC, I’m getting more and more nervous as time passes. Anyway:

Applying as a sophomore

SAT US Hist: 720
SAT Lit: 670
SAT Math 1: 650
ECs: Features editor for school paper, Volunteer for Student Government, Producer/cameraman for school’s televised morning announcements, all in all not too much
Work experience: Busboy->Team Captain at a restaurant, held the job for about 5 years now
8 AP’s, National AP Scholar: 5’s on 5 of the tests, 4’s on the others, mostly honors and AP courses in high school

College stats:
Student at UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) History/Communications major
GPA: 3.667
61 credits at the end of the semester (including APs), not sure how many are transferable.

Cadet in the United States Air Force, looking to possibly pursue a career in the USAF; contributing writer to my school’s newspaper
Fairly decent essays

Thanks guys!

@ rhandler33 -Does USC count courses re-taken in their GPA calculation? I was going to retake my Microecon class since I had a horrible prof, but every school I looked into didn’t accept “revised” grades, so it didn’t seem like it was worth it.

@ rhandler: i know tons of people who have been at their CC for like 3+ years, mostly due to laziness but also because of problems with prereqs and especially since the budget cuts, people have been having a lot of trouble enrolling in classes they need to transfer. but thats amazing, and kudos to you for getting your ***** together and hopefully we’ll all be at USC next year! :D

@ haley: im not too sure about that…are you expecting an SGR? if so, ive heard as long as you maintain your GPA you should be ok. as for dropping your class, all i know is that people say that a W or two wont kill you. but if you dont have many units, even 1 W might not look to good. but i guess if you drop it and get a W, it wont hurt your GPA and maybe you could write a short explanation about why you dropped it? good luck!

@buusey are you going to do AFROTC if you come to USC?

@ haley85

If you’re applying to Marshall, I’m pretty sure you need to have the prereqs done to be admitted.

@ skyline12

They take all courses into consideration when calculating GPA, including those you’ve repeated.

@haley85- if you are marshall, dont drop your macro class. you will not get accepted if you do. Just stick it out and do your best. nothing is set in stone at USC like at the CSUs or UCs.
