@sweetestdream: that. is. genius.

I am actually applying to Annenberg for Communications, so Econ isn’t even a pre-req, but i’ve heard bad things about W’s. When I contacted a USC admissions rep., she was pretty vague and said, “It’s up to you, whether you want to drop it.” Has anyone been admitted yet that has a W or two? Or does anyone know anything about getting C’s during Spring semester?

I’m so nervous, I can’t even stand it anymore!!

@foodmunkee

Yes, I plan on continuing AFROTC and getting that commission! But since the Air Force decided to downsize, that’s also been a big stressor in my life as of late. I am transferring because the school I attend is too close to home, I want to see more of the country, and so I don’t have to commute to LLAB, PT, and such.

@buusey

Hahahaha nice nice. Yeah I’m planning on transferring to the AFROTC from the Army ROTC program that I’m currently participating in right now. Let’s just say the Army…doesn’t fit me hahaha. Oh yeah, btw I got a question: What are LLABs like? Because in the Army ROTC, our labs consist of basically learning random stuff (how to tie rope around our waist?.. to memorizing the various components of an OPORD…1st years don’t even get to write OPORDs either lol -_-, so I don’t get why they try to teach us this, and they barely even send out OPORDS too, like 1 every month or so) from various mini lessons that the cadre try to teach us (they are about 5 min long each). We take notes on our mini notepads and then we immediately try to apply our lessons right after we learn them on the same day, and let’s just say they don’t really go quite well…lol. Plus everyone forgets about the lessons they learned that day lol. Are LLABs kind of like this, or are they different?

@haley85- A counselor once told me that they basically hate Ws. But she further went onto say that one W wont hurt you necessarily. I think your fine as long as dropping the class keeps you above 12 semester units, especially if its your first W and its the semester they might not even see grades for until youre already in.

@SouthOCtrojan- Yeah, I also feel like getting a W is better than risking a D. Thanks for the advice!

@foodmunkee

I’m sure it varies from detachment to detachment but my first year of AFROTC consisted of tons of drilling and marching. We also had mentorship, where all the cadets that haven’t been to field training yet (Cadet Airmen) just mingle amongst the Cadet Officers. Uhh…we had a few guest speakers as well as a bunch of other random stuff. For example, we had a sports day once where played a bunch of sports to build cohesion.

Depending on what year you are, the second year prepares you to go to Field Training, where you’ll learn dining procedures, how to fold you clothes, all that fun stuff but it’s generally much more “military.” The third and fourth year, you will basically be leading the freshmen and sophomore cadets while doing case studies and paperwork, etc.

An Air Science class is also required where you learn how to write memos, LISTSERVS, and communicate in the Air Force via Powerpoint and public speaking. You also learn more about military protocol and a bunch of history as well.

Hope that helps…btw, think I have a chance at USC? lol

could anyone take a screen shot or describe this elusive Mid Year Grades box thats showing up on some of your usconnect pages?

i am curious :]

@buusey Hahaha my bad! You have a really great chance of getting in to USC dude! The AP scores really give you a boost in your chances of being admitted. Combo that with a killer essay, and I’d say you’re in. Also, your Extracurriculars are pretty solid too man.

OK sweeeeeet. That sounds MUCH better than the Army ROTC, thank God! I’m definitely looking forward for my transfer to AFROTC and for that USC acceptance package in the mail! :D

RE: taking a W.

I might actually have to take a W this semester. I got a ton of new responsibilities dumped on me at work and it conflicts with my class schedule for 1 class I’m taking for fun(some intro computer programming class). I wonder if I call and explain why I might have to withdraw from the course if schools will mind? It isn’t for my degree and I wouldn’t transfer it.

@veggiechips: the box lol

http://i812.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/zz45/foodmunkee1117/Screenshot2010-04-27at115728PM.png

i want a status change :(

@foodmunkee - do you think ur getting a SGR since your entering as a freshman and you have the “mid year grades box”

thanks a lot, foodmunkee! (btw, i love how college has taken over your bookmarks XD)

i have the same question as dainese; what is the current consensus about this secret box? does it mean an impending SGR?

@ Dainese and veggiechips I don’t think so, since I read in previous posts (I forgot which page) that they randomly appear. Someone said that happened last year to people who never got an SGR request and got accepted.
I want that box to disappear! lol

@veggiechips hahaha yep! I’m an organized nerd lolol

i thought they usually gave SGRs to freshmans?

the question on my mind now is; did this box magically appear to anyone who was then rejected?

@kulakai-eh, I dunno thats your call. To be honest, I really think that admissions people are not going to really care if you have a hard semester or more responisbilities. They want to see if youre well rounded and if you can do more than just school. Its up to you. If you think you can buckle down for another month or two, then just do it and get the A or B. If not, then yea, as long as its your first W, I dont think itd be a HUGE deal.

@Dainese Usually they do, but I guess there are exceptions. uscGirly was a freshman sociology major applicant and she got accepted freakin early! lol

@veggiechips I believe so. To be honest, I think it’s a weird glitch since it’s asking for grade reports from freshman applicants, not from transfer applicants.

@veggiechips your name is making me hungry -_- lolol
