USC 2010 Transfer Thread

From what i’ve heard collegekid, USC housing is full?

If anyone is looking for housing and wants to share a room or if anyone currently has an appartment and needs a roomate for the next academic year, PM me!

I need to find housing, at a reasonable price!

A few people have posted that it is nearly full.

@Beau For the most part, USC housing is indeed full, but many people who attended USC in past years have told me that USC housing isn’t all that great in terms of quality, and the price isn’t exactly cheap. If your budget is around 900$ a month with utilities paid and furnished, I would highly consider University Gateway. You really won’t get a better deal this time of year when most housing options are already full as well as the proximity to school (5 mins walking) and amenities that are included in rent. They will match you up with a roommate according to a matching system, so you wouldn’t have to worry about that. The only catch is it’s 900 per bed, so you’ll be sharing with someone.

Me and Kulakai looked at it and were pretty much instantly convinced of living there, and plus you’ll know so many CCers since many of us are housing at gateway.

i want to take a summer class at a local cc so i dont have to take it at USC, but the class ends the same week the fall semester starts for USC. the class cannot be taken online as it is a chemistry class with lab, 6 hours a day from 7 am - 1 pm, has anyone ever been in this situation and if yes is there anyway that they would let me finish or would i have to drop the class?

@chrstphrcn You can continue to take your class at your CC, as long as the class ends before the first day of school starts at USC you are good to go, however, if the class at your cc is still ongoing while USC classes have initiated, then you may be in the dilemma to drop the course, but if not, you’re fine.

You may want to call the USC office of admissions just to clarify if the first day of school at USC overlaps with the last few days or last day of your CC. I would assume that if it does overlap USC’s start schedule by a day or two, it would be excused, but I would definitely call to clarify their policies if they do overlap.

ill probably have to drop it…the summer class ends on the fourth day at usc =/

chrstphrcn - You can also try to speak with your current instructor to see if he/she will work with you as far as taking finals earlier/later or even in private during office hours. I think a situation like this will be understood by most instructors and they’ll probably help you out.

@xdzzzrawr: I do agree that for the area and how nice it is, Gateway is a steal. However, I’m not sure my father is willing to swing $900 a month.

I am still waiting to hear back from USC financial aid, as the size of the package will be a direct contributor to whether ill be living there. I have found craigslist ad’s for places and have found private bedrooms at 600-700 p/month.

I can’t comment on the area that those are in, but they looked nice, and were even more reasonable than gateway(without all the ammenities)

Pray a good package comes through, and im sure ill be seeing you guys!

@Beau Yea I hope your financial aid package comes through well, I actually made an appeal and am still waiting to hear back. Note though, most of the craiglist ads with the 600/700 month do not include utilities so you may have to factor in 100$ more for water/electric/gas/internet/cable if wanted etc. Just something to keep in mind.

Also they may be much more unsafe if they’re on the westside which tend to be the cheaper places and it’s proximity to school may not be the best. Not trying to sway you towards gateway, but just giving some simple advice to consider when looking at a place when you’re apartment hunting.

So for those of you guys that have already attended orientation, were you able to register for classes already? Are they already full? Do they reserve spaces for transfer by any chance?

I seriously hope they have some kind of override for us transfers to add classes lol. I took a look at some the classes I need and the majority of them were full!

From what Kulakai said earlier, and I think it was also mentioned at orientation, not sure, they reserve some slots for each session. The classes can fill up once you’re there from quicker people at the same orientation, though. I have some tips I’ll post later that could help.

Serapher is correct. You can read about it in the FAQ on the orientation website. In fact ya’ll should probably read through the orientation website to get an idea of how orientation works :)

Who else is still waiting for a decision? It’s been nearly 7 weeks since I sent my transcript. -_-

I’m still waiting…and there’s a few more people on here still waiting

What does your status say kaymac? Mine was forwarded for review on Friday so I hope that means I’ll know within a few days.

Mine was forwarded on Friday as well.

everyone check the backdoor method. mine shows up now. it says to deposit my $300.
