USC 2010 Transfer Thread

@ArrogantBastard - A lot of people, including myself, get spring grade requests. If you are under 30 prior to spring then there is a good chance they’d look at yours too. USC does look past poor high school performance though. I had a solid college gpa at a cc and got admitted with a GED and no sat/act.

archieg, major changes aren’t allowed during orientation.

Talk to a Marshall counselor before trying to do an inter-campus transfer to Marshall as a TRANSFER student.

unknownpleasures, I know. There are 3 prereqs for Marshall internal transfers; I took 2 at community college and the 3rd one I gotta take here in the fall if I want to get in for the spring.

Hopefully, a slot will open up until school starts or for international orientation.

@archieg - Yes usually people will end up dropping. You could also take macro now which has spots still open as you don’t need to take either macro or micro first. I’m taking macro this semester instead of micro since micro was full already.

Gateway sent me a new list of room mates. I got one of the newer members of the CC Facebook group. One of my previous matches was a CC/CCFB member. Takin’ over.

@Serapher - So if we get 20+ people together, can we collectively negotiate a cheaper lease rate if people re-sign for next year as well?:stuck_out_tongue: Gateway renters union local 318!

If they don’t, we’ll have to cordon off a floor in protest.

I still havent gotten my roommate list! I called them up today and they told me they still had no one placed in my apartment, let alone my room :frowning: they’ll be emailing out roommate list this week so if they dont find anyone to put in my apartment, then i’ll most probably be alone :/

@hellostranger57 don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of friends from CC at gateway! Plus I think it would be pretty sweet if you had an entire apartment all by yourself at a low rate :P. I’m fairly sure someone will be placed with you, as it is in their business interests to get as much money out of each room.

True, despite it being an apartment building I imagine there will be enough of us that it’ll sort of be like a dorm situation where everyone just hangs out at eachother’s places anyway so I doubt anyone will be lonely unless they want to be.

hey guyss :)

has everyone received their fin. aid packages already?
cause i just saw the charges for my account and i haven’t received my package yet which is kinda scaring me…

and…my efc is 0…anyone with the same efc receive the package yet? i was just wondering about how much theyre going to give

USC10 - I received my FA awards about a week ago; My EFC is also zero. Since I’ll be attending in the Spring of 2011, they awarded me just for that one semester until we re-apply for 2011-2012. Estimated cost of enrollment is just under 28k and they awarded me the same amount (which includes about 6k in federal loans and work study).

Did any of you guys who have attended orientation purchase a spirit bag? I’m wondering what’s in it besides a t-shirt. I didn’t order one when I made a reservation.

Some low FAFSA EFC packages:

@Budlightyear - I thought I bought one but somehow wasn’t charged for it and ended up only being handed the tshirt at orientation so I’m not really sure what happened there.

directed below Good to know sky-raptor!

@Bud

If you ordered the spirit bag, they only give you the t-shirt during orientation. The other goodies will be picked up during Welcome Week.

Thanks guys! I don’t think Spring admits have a welcome week because there isn’t anything I came across that implied having one offered for us. Anyway, I was just curious. Thanks again!

Kula - It might be because students are entitled to one and is already included in the price of the session fee, the extra charge(s) could just be for additional guests?

https://sait.usc.edu/ca/spiritbox/spirit_box.asp

Here is what the spirit bag contains. That is the shirt we got at orientation so maybe I did successfully order a spirit bag?

I didn’t get a shirt so either they didn’t like me, you did successfully order, or they took your word for it.

Hmm… I just tried to make a modification through the orientation website, it seems that they do charge us for the bag on top of the session fee. No complaints here, I just don’t think I’ll be needing any of that stuff. Either way, I hope spring admits are invited to attend welcome week, I’d love to hang out with you guys.

A few days ago I emailed the financial aid office about why I wasn’t receiving a cal grant even though on the cal grant website it said I had been granted one and they sent me this: “If you did not receive the Cal Grant at your previous institution, then unfortunately, you will not be eligible to receive it here at USC due to your high expected family contribution.” Last year I went to a community college so I was able to reserve my cal grant so I don’t know how this makes any sense. Moreover, since when is the cal grant based on efc? Any suggestions on what to do is appreciated.
