USC 2010 Transfer Thread

Sooo tired from orientation but im so glad i got in all the classes i wanted! I got a pretty nice schedule for fall! Yay! :)

I’d also like to say the bookstore is freakin amazing. I need to do a cafe/food crawl of campus next week to see what all the food vendors are like.

Kula - if you’re going to do that, hit me up dude, i’ll meet you up there! I have an entire semester to beef up and gain some weight.

Sure thing. Just finished up the last of my lease documentation and I’m cleared to move down on the 1st so I’ll shoot you a msg that week once I’m down.

For sure! Let me know if you need any help with moving.

I wanted to say a congratulations to all who were accepted! To those who unfortunately were rejected…from everyone I have talked to, this year was the most difficult to get in. I strongly suggest, if possible, sticking with it and re-applying. This university can do wonders for you, and its an institution that is really breeding the forefront of updated scholastic learning.

To those I saw at orientation, it was a pleasure meeting yall, and I look forward to establishing Trojan friendships with yall. If anyone else is living in Gateway, let me know. We will be doing beer and bbq soon!

The orientation was draining but super fun! I only got to meet one from CC though and then Kulakai I only “met” from far away. Haha! Did everyone get the classes they wanted? I’m so thankful spaces opened up earlier because got the schedule I wanted! Yay!

@BeauSelisker1990 I’ll be at Gateway, hit me up if you guys have something going on!

@Beau I’ll be at Gateway as well, let’s do it!

archieg, I also ordered a materials request packet. When I called the orientation department, they told me all instructions for setting up an appointment to register for classes is in the materials packet and told me nothing else, so I guess you’ll just have to wait for it.

Hey guys since I was accepted for Spring 2011 when should I start to look for housing/roommates?

@Chelsea - Many people sign academic year long leases so it’ll be harder to find a place for just Spring semester however many people go to study abroad or graduate early so some stuff should be available. I imagine the deals are better for Spring as well. I’d suggest doing some research on what’s in the area around campus now and then seriously look at places starting the beginning of December and plan for a move in date a couple weeks before Spring semester starts so you can can get settled and meet people.

If you aren’t on the fb group yet, we got a transfer housing discussion thread on there with links to many of the apartments that rent to students nearby.

Does anyone know whether more classes are going to be opened? I couldn’t make it to either orientations, so now I have to register who knows when! lol

@Kulakai thanks alot, yeah I checked out the facebook thread, it’s pretty helpful. I think I’m going to look in to living at Gateway, Tuscany, or maybe even the Radisson.

There’s now a ton of us living at gateway already. Join the club :)

I need to enroll in Econ 251 but all the slots are closed! Will more classes open up for international orientation?

Or do people usually drop classes before the first day of school?

Thank you! This has been REALLY worrying me all weekend.

@archieg - I noticed that too. I am not sure if they will or not but you should call and ask soon. I do know that between now and the beginning of class in August you will see people drop classes as they try to get a more optimal schedule so you just need to be diligent about checking every morning or night etc. to see if stuff opens up.

If it comes down to it, you may be able to get them to add a seat specifically for you. I’m not sure what the success rate on that is, though. I would guess that they would add more seats for international orientation since they did for the other ones but who knows for sure?

To follow up what Serapher said, if you need a course for your degree, they will get you into it. They will even create seats in a class that is full to get your schedule to work for you. This has been said several times by advisors so I would not worry too much.

Long shot at being useful here but, if anyone needs an ARLT-100g, I just dropped “The Early Modern Spanish World in Literature and Film”. It’s the only ARLT-100g course left at the moment, MW 10:00-11:50.

How much emphasis does USC place on highschool transcripts when transferring as a sophmore?

I have a fairly lol-worthy highschool GPA (2.8 about), good SATs (around the top 25th percentile for USC).

I’ll have 22 units completed at a CCC by the end of fall semester, and 40 by the end of spring semester (will they even look at these grades?). I also have 20 AP credits (5 tests, all with 5s) if that counts towards the 30 unit mark.
