I know we need to send our tax returns to USC, but do we also have to send them to FAFSA?

My Profile was received. I’m still waiting on FAFSA. I had to snail mail it in because I was stupid enough to flip flop my first and last name, and apparently there is no electronic way to change that.

Where does it say that we’re required to submit our tax returns?

Nevermind, I see it. Due by March 2nd.

wait wait wait… I was unaware that you had to send in your tax return forms to USC after submitting the FAFSA and CSS Profile, I submitted both and they were sent on Feb 8th to USC apparently, but on my status for OASIS it still says it’s not updated, am I supposed to fax in my parent’s 2009 tax return forms, if so which forms do I fax in, tax returns come in a package of many papers, thank you to anyone in advance, I REALLY need to clear this up.

I believe they mean the 2010 tax returns, not the 2009. If that were the case, I’m screwed as well!

It’s 2009 tax forms. We’re not even 2 months into 2010.

@xdzzzrawr: If your parents don’t have it completed, that’s fine. Once all tax forms are submitted, filed and tendered (either money owed or received from the government), then you will return back to your FAFSA form to make corrections and replace all estimates made prior. To reiterate: ALL TAX FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED. Everything that your parents get back from their CPA or tax professional should be forwarded to USC along with your own tax return forms (if applicable). And when I say everything, USC wants to know EVERYTHING. This will all show on your parents’ tax forms – ask them for it, and they should know.

As for the OASIS not updating – again, wait 4 weeks at least. The system takes time to update. My Taxes were submitted on February 2, and they just finally showed up in the system today.

There is no need to panic. Despite the so-called February 2 deadline, the financial aid office understands that there are conflicts within the process and doesn’t even LOOK at your financial aid information until you have been accepted. As the financial aid officer put it (during the transfer day): “DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.” In other words get your taxes done; tell your parents to get their taxes done (if applicable) and take care of it now, rather than later.

Is it still possible to apply!? I missed the Feb 1 deadline!!!

@solidblu - The deadline for transfer application submissions was february 1st meaning it had to be submitted online or postmarked by that date.

I think you can but you’re not guaranteed that they will consider you.

yes you can still apply…for the spring 2011 semester. if you submitted your app after february 1st, they just hold your application until the following semester

today is my 21st birthday…and all i really want is my acceptance to USC. FIGHT ON!

I don’t know what I was thinking when I wrote 2010. I meant 2009, considering I used 2008 tax forms to complete the FAFSA/Profile.

college transcripts statuses are beginning to show up on oasis!
I sent them out on Feb 1 and 2.

BOUT TIME!

Hey guys. I think I am going to have a “W” on my transcript. What do you guys think about that? It doesn’t have an effect on my GPA but does it look bad to USC?

^yes it does look bad to USC and most private schools. getting a “Pass” grades is basically interpreted as gettign a C in the class, and getting a “W” for a class is interpreted as you having a D or F for the class before dropping it.

Re: Having a “W” on your transcript.

I don’t have a link, but I thought I remember reading on USC’s website that it is “ok” to have 1 “W” on your transcript as long as you don’t have multiples. I actually dropped one class because the professor was so terrible, and since I’m an A-student, I’m hoping that this single drop won’t otherwise have an impact on my transcript.

one “W” isnt too bad; however, anymore than that, USC will see it as a sign of giving up (at least thats what they said on transfer day)

thanks everyone. yeah its a long story and in my opinion I should not be even getting the W. I argued a good case with the academic advisor of my school as to why the W should not appear on my transcript and after I felt that I pretty much “backed her into a corner” she lashed out and said I have no integrity and that if I choose to the fight this anymore she “may be obligated to inform USC about it.” I am ****ed off!!
