USC 2010 Transfer Thread

@socal4: Admissions begins to review transfer applications starting officially on April 1 as this is the deadline for admissions to send out all decisions to freshman applicants. There could be the possibility that admissions finishes early with freshman applicants and then moves on to transfers before this deadline, but I doubt it. Depending on if you’re currently enrolled, you may receive an SGR and the rest is what AMorrison described.

can anyone answer my question please? :]

I made huge mistakes on my CSS profile and FAFSA, can I edit them and will they automatically be sent to USC to replace the old ones?

You can edit the FAFSA and I’m pretty sure it’s automatically updated @ USC.
For the CSS, you have to email them and tell them you have to make changes. They’ll email you back and ask which boxes need changing.

hey guys,

@ns89

Hey, Can i ask you a few questions? I’m going to be a community college transfer into USC and then hopefully med school. Can you tell me the difference in work say that you did in your science/pre-med classes at CC vs. USC? was it much harder?

thanks :]

@veggiechips ahhh kk thanks for the AP credit clarification! lolol :D

are there any scholarships for transfer students that are still available to apply for?

@ NathanDrake - The Norm Topping Scholarship is the only one -that I know of- that is currently still open for applications; all the other ones were due back in Dec, Jan, and Feb. I could be wrong, or may not know of any other opportunities. Did you apply for OCC’s scholarship?

I have new information on USC SPPD.

In 2008, 229 people applied, 54 were accepted, and all 54 enrolled.

The average transfer GPA is 3.5

http://www.acsp.org/sites/default/files/ACSP_2009_FINAL_Book[1].pdf</a>
Advance to page 237 for more information.

DJS3CA, doesn’t it say that 3.5 was the minimum for transfers? “Minimum GPA: 3.5 Transfer admission only”

It reads:

“Minimum GPA: 3.5 Transfer admission only”

Because up until recently, SPPD primarily admitted transfers. Currently, SPPD is aggressively recruiting more freshmen. I have a friend who worked in SPPD’s admissions (and now works for Loyola Law) and I’ll ask him why SPPD did that. I talk to him all the time and it won’t be very long till I receive a response.

My friend said via text message:

“Because High School seniors had no idea what stuff like public policy and planning was until recently.”

@budlightyear i am from occ too. If you dont mind me asking, what did you mean by the occ scholarship?

@hellostranger57 - The OCC scholarship for continuing/transferring students.

Here’s a link: [Orange Coast College - Scholarship Office](http://www.orangecoastcollege.edu/student_services/scholarship_office/)

The application for this particular scholarship was due a few weeks ago; it wasn’t advertised much on OCC’s website or on MyOCC. Kind of a bummer that most students had to find out on their own. Have you heard of it? It’s based more on academic merit rather than financial need. There are departmental scholarships that may still be available, take a look at them, I’d say 98% of the students on our campus never bother to apply for any of them.

What classes are you taking this semester? Just wondering 'cause we may have a class or two together. haha. I don’t speak with anyone during class.

@budlightyear i’ve never heard of those scholarships! I’ll check them out. Thanks for letting me know!

This semester i’m taking art, journalism, history and music. Pretty much done with everything. Lol. How about you, what classes are you taking?

@hellostranger57 - No problem! Also, if you’re curious about some of the scholarships, don’t hesitate to drop by the honors office in watson hall and ask for info; our honors advisor is fantastic.

I guess we don’t have any classes together. haha. I’m taking calculus, macroecon, accounting, psychology, sociology, cultural anthro, physical anthro, geography, and geography lab. All of the G.E. courses are super easy. I just wanted to top off the 64 max transferable units to USC to save some money there, and to transfer as a junior.

@budlightyear omg you’re taking ALL of those classes just this semester?! you’re unbelievable!!! i’ve been in OCC way too long already I am so ready to get out of there! I just hope that USC is going to take me!

hello fellow OCCers, i applied for the OCC scholarships. i applied last yr too and got $1000. hopefully i get more this yr since i’m transferring and tuition will obviously be higher for me, wherever i end up. and to budlightyear, that is alot of units. like 27 units? what’s ur GPA?

@ NathanDrake & hellostranger57 - It is a tough schedule, I’ll admit, but it isn’t impossible considering the combination of classes aren’t really fighting for my study time. All of the GE courses require only a moderate amount of studying, usually can cram with no problems and end up with above 90% on exams; most of the information are retained by paying attention during lectures. The classes I that I spend most of my time on are calculus, econ, and accounting.

Nathan, Congratulations on last year’s scholarship award!!! I wish you the best of luck for this year, buddy! My current GPA is 4.0

hellostranger57 - I hope USC takes you as well, and me. haha.
