USC 2011 Transfer Thread

so i just refreshed my usc app page and hooray! it says this: We have received your application, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify freshmen by April 1st. We often like to see the mid-year grades of freshman applicants. If you have not already done so, please submit your final, fall term marks when they become available. You may submit them at USConnect by clicking “mid-year grade reports”, or by visiting www.usc.edu/midyeargrades. Sometimes, in the course of our review of applications, we find that we need additional information. In such cases we will mail a written request. If you receive a request for more information, please respond promptly.
Just one more q though; any reason they are talking about freshman applications in my status? i’m a transfer student so just wondering. thanks

@hyetha: Thanks! I am just confused how this relates to the progression of statuses…am I in because it took two days to progress my statuses or am I waiting for that last “the committee has acted upon…”? Mitch’s post was a little confusing in that aspect

@rahuldang
Okay so what gives, i am in the same situation as you i sent in all my information and documents and it still says “We have received your application, and we need more information. Please ensure you have submitted all required items. Due to the high volume of application documents we receive, allow sufficient processing time.
however, i already turned in everything i needed to and when i clicked the missing documents link it says that i have nothing required that needs to be turned in.” So i called and asked if they received everything and they said they did, and that was about half an hour ago and my status still hasn’t changed did you say anything specific that would get them to acknowledge that your app was complete so that the status could be changed?

I was in the same situation too (application status stating that they need more information when everything has been received on the Documents list) so I called the admission about a few minutes ago and was told that my file as a transfer student was complete and I could disregard the message inquiring for more information.

Right after I hung up the phone, I went back to my application status, and there it was the new status:

“We have received your application, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify freshmen by April 1st. We often like to see the mid-year grades of freshman applicants. If you have not already done so, please submit your final, fall term marks when they become available.
The only thing is it states about freshman applicants, but I don’t think it’s a big issue considering several past posts on this forum. Anyway, if you called the admission and they said that your file was complete, I don’t think you need to worry about it (as somebody else mentioned earlier, the online status does not always reflect the accurate process of your application).

@everyone
Okay so it changed, and i guess if anyone still has that status that says that they still have missing documents but have submitted everything they should call and i really dont know if its a good thing or bad thi8ng to do, i personally see it as a good thing because it tell the counselors that you are aware and are serious about USC, and so the more the better for your consideration, and i know its a microscopic fraction towards consideration but hey with something this important anything matters and can help.

@sydneyral … i don’t think i understood the progression thing they posted either to be honest. I applied last year and all i know is that rejections went out last and a decision arrived in the mail a few days after the “Acted upon” status. If you get that status soon, that should probably mean you’re in, since transfers have til June 1 to get a decision. The early you get the status the better it is. Someone can correct me if i’m wrong; just stating what i noticed last year applying as a freshman.

I just read bits and parts of what’s been going on lately. I just have a few things to say:

1) Said this 1,000 times and I’ll say it again. DO NOT look so deeply into the statuses. They are very unreliable and cannot be used as an indication of where your application really stands. As in the case of the poster who had it switch to SGR even though they never sent spring grades.

2) This leads into my second point. The progression is not guaranteed. It is just a general observation that people have come to notice over time. There have been cases where statuses never updated and people received the packet in the mail.

I guess what I am trying to say is do not take the statuses so seriously.

And you’re looking from the progression to “We are reviewing” to “Acted upon.” A quick turn around generally meant admissions. Nothing is set in stone.

Not always the case. There were cases in which people statuses changed in the last week. Once again it’s all about the turn from “We are reviewing” to “Acted Upon.”

That’s the problem with trying to interpret them. There is too much ambiguity and just because it happened to one person does not mean it is true for everyone.

I just got done calling the admissions office about my transcript and they received it, but they just didn’t have time to update my document status yet. I also asked if they had looked my application and she said that the office didn’t even start looking at transfer applications yet! Maybe they’ve started looking at the transfer applicants who had to turn in their applications before the February 1st deadline, but I don’t think they’ve even started to look at the ones turned in on the general deadline.

^ I agree, as I had the same experience this afternoon. I was freaking out because it had taken a month and a half for my stupid h.s. transcripts to FINALLY make it there (they were stored on microfilm in the records dept of the public school system in my town, since they’re ten years old- for heavens sake…), so I asked the official who took my call if this was going to affect my decision or anything and she said the same thing- “we haven’t even touched the transfer applications yet.”

Thanks for the explanation, Mitch :)

This is so stressful…basically, I have until April 1st to get an admissions packet. If I don’t get one, then that means I wouldn’t have made it to the SCA and will be up for admission in CLAS with the other transfers…which would make me wait like everyone else lol

@h0n3ytea

i havent taken macro or stats either but i asked and they said it really shouldnt affect admission it just would make you “more competitive”. micro/macro/stat and all that isnt required but they may want to see your performance in micro if they know it’s in progress. just make sure to keep your grades up so if you get an sgr you’ll feel comfortable turning in your grades! those are my first and second choices too so we’ll see what happens :slight_smile: i heard that sppd applicants are some of the last to find out so i think we’re just gonna have to wait it out…

@h0n3ytea

OMGGGG mine says that too about sppd!!!

Your intended major is:
First-choice major:
(1101) [-1] The selected post [1101] is not offered for this term
Second-choice major:
(242) International Relations, B.A.

WHAT DOES THAT MEANNN?! I’m going to call tomorrow asap that’s seriously so scary. my wholeee application is focused around sppd!

Does anyone know if you can change your major at the orientation? I applied for psychology but am starting to prefer neuroscience. I understand it’s rare to change your major to competitive ones like business or cinema, but what about within CLAS? I have 55 units to transfer so I suppose I’ll be transferring as a sophomore.

@Sydneyral
Congrats on the quick update! Keep us posted with whats going on!

I’m still on the same boat as everyone else…just waiting

@h0n3ytea

Heyy! Okay so I just talked to the sppd office and she said they just made changes to the curriculum so now it’s a new major number code on the applications that’s why ours is showing up as an error because it’s the old number. But she told me not to be alarmed and that our applications are still being looked at for sppd.

^

I applied to SPPD as my 2nd choice, so I guess I shouldn’t worry too much then…

Hey everyone,

Been busy with finals! whisper I am wondering the same thing too… I always change my mind with majors! does anyone have an answer? can we switch our majors within CLAS?

I think you can change majors within CLAS so long as there are no supplemental materials. I THINK…I don’t know.

No status update for me. Just came home and didn’t look at it all day…which is a first. But I was busy having pictures taken :D

Lucky you. I’ve checked three times today. =(

i check like 3 times everyday hahaha. the wait is driving me crazy
