USC 2011 Transfer Thread

how many people applied to Viterbi?

do i have a chance with 3.28 gpa with 52 credits for industrial engineering? i am international student.

@Nacliamsi yeah, my fall grades were included. When I applied I put my 3.57 gpa and they changed it themselves to my gpa included with fall grades. Maybe Winter grades perhaps?

I applied to Viterbi,

“my application is currently being reviewed”

not sure what you’re chance can be, i say you have a shot just like everyone else.

Yeah, it was my first time applying

i just realized USConnect works from my iPhone … this is going to be VERY anti-productive … crap, i shouldn’t have tried :/

@AF1990

even if they need fall grades, i sent that updated transcript weeks ago anyway. i am very frustrated about this uncertainity. especially when people started have status updates. i still have “we need more information.”

@Eddie01x1

i see that people have very high gpas, so 3.28 stands quite low compared to theirs. but i hope that demand would be low for engineering majors, so that i can get in. as far as i see in this forum, most people apply for business. whats your major?

Why do I have this? I applied as a tranfer…! :
We have received your application, and it appears we require no additional information at this time. We will be reviewing applications through the month of March, and we expect to be able to meet our commitment to notify freshmen by April 1st. We often like to see the mid-year grades of freshman applicants. …

I applied to film production, 3.6 GPA, international transfer… Is this message bad news?

The statuses are unreliable. People already called and were told not to worry.

Simply, do not read into the statuses.

moniso - coincidentally, I’m applying to SCA (Critical Studies, though) and I also got updated to that freshman/fall grades status at some point in the last week.

@dreamupsidedown probably it is something of the SCA… hope to see you there! =) good luck!

@nacliamsi gpa’s like any average, tells a partial story… let’s take GPA’s of 2 students…student A has a 4.0 and student B a 3.5. you would think by looking at this that student A has a better chance of getting in… . but what if student A only took easy classes throughout his semesters, while student B had to overload one semester by taking chemistry, Calculus and Physics, plus a foreign language, or had to pick up a second job because his/her parents lost their jobs and they needed the extra income in order for them not to lose their house… but still managed to get a 3.5 gpa… who would you consider the better student???

extreme situations, but “gpa’s” don’t tell the story of how hard you’re willing to work, YOU tell the story when you fill out your essay and explain your situation.

I’m doing mechanical engineering, I have a 3.9 gpa. but thats just my situation, i might not work, might not do volunteer work, and might be well of to the point where i can hire private tutors all the time. Tell YOUR story, be sincere and you have just as good of a chance.

Hi, i have a question to anyone who applies to Marshall school of business.

I’ve not received the decision yet but i’m pretty sure it wouldnt be well, so i’m planning to re-apply next year but the school i’m going to (UCSB) doesnt offer business admin, so there’s no management class. When i checked the USC catalog for business-admin major, there’re 2 management classes that one needs to take during their first 2 years, so you guys think i should take those classes during summer in a CC or not?

I just checked my application and for the requirement classes for Business admin, they only require Calc (Math 128) , Econ 1&2 (Micro and Macro) and Writing 2 (WRIT 130) and no management classes. I’m so confused.

@tantungnam

Management is not a prerequisite. Just take the required business courses and focus on the general education classes.

Hey guys,

I know some people may have already discussed this, but I just have to know…

Does USC accept online courses/distance learning for GE Category classes, or do they have to all be in-class? I take classes mostly in class, but I have taken a few that are online. I know that science and foreign language are not accepted, but any info on category 1 or any of the others would be muchly appreciated!!!

(this is all for undergrad transfer students)

@dressed4success

I’m not 100% certain as I cannot find the information right now but I believe so. In addition, most schools do not indicate whether the course is taken on ground or online so USC will not know.

For example, I took Psych 101 online but on my transcript there is no mention of the course being taken online. I wouldn’t worry about it.

@ MitchAPalooza : what do you mean by business courses? Principles of Microeconomics & Macroeconomics?

I applied to Marshall without a second choice major… I now want to add SPPD as my second choice, does anyone know how I can go about doing this? I have about a 3.75 and my application is totally geared towards Marshall. I know SPPD’s and Marshall’s curriculum sort of overlap. Does anyone have an idea about how to go about this process???

good luck guys! June is almost here!

Can anyone tell me if i have a shot this year, I have 33 credits, last spring I failed the entire semester due to problems I was facing, since, I have turned it around.

I have a 3.2 GPA straight As since last spring and an english major.

USC is my dream like many on this thread. I will also apply next year if i dont get in!

THANKS!

tantungnam - take the management courses for financial and managerial accounting. I’m a first year at UCI and I’ve already completed those two management courses since they are part of the prereqs at Marshall.
