@prok2010 thanks! I got it on Saturday but I came home late and posted this right after I saw it sitting on the desk so that’s why cc marked the post here on Sunday. The acceptance was actually postmarked 4/7/11.

Good observation. This is most likely what we’ll end up seeing.

oh wow! People are already hearing back?! Congrats to everyone who has gotten in so far!!
I’m suuuuper nervous, I applied with a pretty low gpa (3.49 from UT Austin-which I hope will help some) for psych. Good luck to everyone!

Do I need the toefl score?

Sent from my SGH-T959 using CC App

I had a question about admission at USC.

My biggest fear is not getting rejected. It is getting accepted and then having them take back my acceptance because of spring grades.

I am currently attending Santa Monica College.

What i heard: USC requests spring grades if a student in currently taking a key class like calculus or is in the border line of relatively low G.P.A and a understadable G.P.A.(depends on major)

I completed every major requirement for business with an “A” already. My G.P.A is 3.73(worked half to full-time since i started college while getting these grades) but like many school I heard USC has many conditions for acceptance.

If i get accepted, they will probably not ask for my spring grades but they will eventually get them because all students have to eventually send them and update thier transcripts . Thus, they will see my grades.

I have heard that they require an AVERAGE SEMESTER G.P.A OF ATLEAST 3.5. during this spring semester as a condition of acceptance. I can see how maybe not allowing my cumulative g.p.a to fall below that would be a must but the semester g.p.a seems kinda unfair.

I am taking 4 classes, three of which I know I will get an A in and one of which I might get a C in.

These grades have a semester average of 3.38.

I have had straight A’s four out of the five semester already completed at smc and it would seem unfair to not get accepted after seeing one C in the middle of 3 A’s… Especially because its Geography and has nothing to do with my major.

Does anyone know anything about conditions after acceptance into USC?

Hmm, I’ve never heard of the “avg spring semester gpa of 3.5” for SGR’s. Is that written somewhere on the site??

@smc1234

an “average” gpa of 3.5 to me sounds like you can get lower than a 3.5 if you have something to compensate for it (like a higher gpa…). It doesn’t mean that you have to get a 3.5 every single semester, it means that if they take your total gpa and divide it over however semesters you took, then it’ll even out to atleast a 3.5. So if you have higher than a 3.5 cumulative then you’ll be fine.

@smc1234 on the acceptance conditions for mine (viterbi engineering) requires that I complete all science, math, engineering courses with a B or better.

I meant ‘SEMESTER G.P.A OF 3.5 OR BETTER’… technically speaking, they have to kinda set a condition…Putting aside the fact that an applicant should get a B or better on major requirement, there has to be a minimum of what they would allow students to get their last semester is they get accepted.

Imagine a 4.0 student who gets 3 C’s and 1 W’ or withdrawal the spring before transfer.
I saw a post on CC from about two years ago where a student said USC told him/her that he needed to maintain atleast a 3.5 g.p.a his last semester as a condition.

However, i do not know what major it was, if they requested spring grades, etc…But like i said, it seems like thier would be a minimum g.p.a that i do not hope is 3.5

Great smc1234, now you’ve made me freak out!

Firstly, I can’t tell what’s up with the core requirements thing. My school only requires one writing class for graduation, yet USC says it both requires transfers to have 2 semesters of writing and it’s recommended that they have 2 semesters of writing. This is confusing…and if they say something about this, could I say that I’ve taken several writing-intensive courses? (my school requires at least 6 communication credits for graduation, and I have already have 6 completed, more coming after this semester)

Secondly, what’s up with this required GPA above 3.5 thing you were talking about smc1234? There’s a chance my semester GPA could dip lower than 3.5, but I doubt my overall GPA would (which is what counts, right?).

Check this site under the section “Test Scores.”

Seems like they require TOEFL from all International transfers.

Thx buddy. I just want to know it can be waived or not.

of ALL the classes i have taken and am taking, i’m worried about the stupidest one. GEOGRAPHY LAB. i just took the mid-term on Friday. honestly it is the most useless class i have ever taken. i have a 4.0 and am doing well in all of my other classes. what is USC going to think when they see i got a B in geography lab while getting A’s in everything else? -_-

@AF what are your grades like?

My lowest two are Bs in Physics II & Mechanics I. The rest of my grades are B+ or A- with a few As. Plus, I’ll have over the max transferable credits by the end of this semester, so I wonder if they take that into account

Hopefully I’ll find out soon as well haha. I have a week and a half left of classes, but all I can focus on is getting accepted.

@deltron
My math classes are all A’s, I got a C on the first semester of physics but B for the second semester, science classes were A’s and B’s. All my GE are A’s. So don’t worry too much. They really do look at everything. I think redeeming my one bad semester (3.12 gpa) with a 3.75 the next really helped and I really took the time to put together the application. Goodluck! Wishing you the best! If you have anymore questions I’d be happy to answer them.

@hye you will be fine brotha trust me.

Yeah, the Overall G.P.A matters most. But the guy/girl who said something about this semester g.p.a think on this site got me all worried and I wanted to know if it was true or depended on majors. Since I am a business major I will probably find out last if i got in.

I guess all we can do is continue working hard and try to get the best grades possible until we hear from USC.

Does the conditions say anything about minimum grades you can get on thier GE classes(Optional classes).?

@clutch … thanks bro. hope so

@AF my grades are similar, but unfortunately my worst semester was the fall. I worked around 20 hrs a week and had kind of crappy professors. I don’t think I mentioned the work part on my app though, so hopefully they just view it as kind of a fluke because my previous two semesters were better (nothing below a B+)
