so this is my essay that i have been working on for my usc admission. i am not totally finished but i would like some input from people to see how good/bad i am doing so far.
any criticism would be beneficial. i have chosen to do the prompt about a significant event or experience that helped me learn what is important.

For some, the year 2007 was just another year that had no significant meaning, but for me it was the time where the importance of life was put into a different perspective. On January 31, 2007 my grandfather whom I called, Lolo died at the age of ninety-six. Then in the following months, on July 6, 2007 my beloved grandmother, Lola died at the age of ninety-three, just ten days away from her birthday. To me, the knowledge of death was very minimal to the basics and this being the first experience of very close relatives death, it was very overwhelming. These events that concluded so closely together terribly impacted my life, but critically acknowledged me on what is really important.
After the heartbreaking event, I became more aware of everything and especially everyone I have in my life. I am very much thankful for my loving family. Good or bad, they are always there supporting, encouraging, and most of all loving me. They are also the people I can turn to if everything else fails. I am also appreciative for the close friends that I have which are basically my extend family. I can always count on them if I am going through troubling times in my life like my grandparents death. Each individual made their own personal influences that made me the person who I am today, and for that I am grateful. Other than being appreciative about someone, I am also thankful that I am here today.
Once the two very significant experiences that I had to undergo, the way I lived my life dramatically changed. Mark Twain once said, In twenty years, you will be more disappointed by what you did not do than by what you did. From this quote, I learned that we are given only one chance for this wonderful experience that we call life. With that one chance we should not have any regrets with the time that we have. Also, to this day I live by my saying, Just live! These two simple words have a very imperative meaning to me. I believe that with all the difficulties or challenges that you are facing, to not forget to simply live your life to the fullest every single day; seizing every day as if it was my last.
In the year of 2007 was when I lost my loving, caring, and extraordinary grandparents. I believe that through any situation whether through hardship or ease, there is always significant benefits that come from it. For me, after their death the value of life and the blessing that I have grew more significant.
