The first students in USC’s class of 2030 were accepted Friday, with about 3,800 admitted early action.
The early action acceptance rate was about 9.5%. More than 40,000 students applied under the November 1 deadline, the university told Annenberg Media in an email statement.
The university said they expect to admit about 5,000 more students in March.
USC began offering early-action applications in the fall of 2022. In 2025, the early action acceptance rate was roughly 8.4%, with about 3,500 accepted. USC ultimately admitted about 8,700 incoming students for the fall 2025 semester and about 2,200 for spring admission. The year before, USC admitted about 3,000 students early action for the class of 2028.
The piece is missing important info - how many were deferred which would help make more sense of this from the article:
“The first students in USC’s class of 2030 were accepted Friday, with about 3,800 admitted early action.
The early action acceptance rate was about 9.5%. More than 40,000 students applied under the November 1 deadline, the university told Annenberg Media in an email statement.”
Although not included in the piece, all students not accepted were deferred to RD.
Ahhh like Georgetown. I couldn’t find that, even on the admission page.
So it’s too hard to infer an overall rate. We don’t know the amount applying EA vs RD.
It’s so weak btw that schools do this. Kids bust their butt to apply early, to get an earlier answer.
If they take your app money, they should give you an answer - my opinion.
But - because they have the control due to their perceived brand strength - they manipulate these poor kids because it’s helps them ensure a stronger class, statistically.
In that case, deferral gives no additional information about how competitive the applicant is for admission.
