USC Admitted Transfer Students 2008

wow that’s awesome.

caligurl, that is pretty amazing. I assume your EFC is zero? Do you live with your parents? Please, if you don’t mind, tell us more about your financial background.

Yeah I’m also really interested. I know that it’s personal stuff, but as much as you feel comfortable with, please share. Were your stats stellar?

caligurl also had to take out loans but i think she posted before that her dad is covering that part so she only ended up paying for $2000+
she had the standard zero EFC package of $33,400 Univ grant, $9,000 loans, maxed out fed grants

$9K in loans? Ouch. I thought the standard zero EFC package was like $38K university grant. And isn’t the federal grant basically just the Cal Grant, which is like $7K?

How much would it cost to attend USC without room/board? Is the basic $35K tuition the only big thing I’d need to pay for? Do you still get the same university grant and federal aid that you would get if you were going to live on campus? If not, how much would it reduce by?

Sorry for all the questions.

Anyone still in same boat without housing? I live a decent distance away that I can commute for awhile but I am hoping there is something I can do to get housing within the 1st couple weeks? Any suggestions?

Any ladies who are transfers doing the whole rush thing? Do let me know I would love to meet some of you next week!

1lazysoul I don’t mean to sound rude, but where did I say I was taking out loans? I never signed the note thing or chose a lender. I completely ignored the loan process. I was never going to get a loan because my dad was going to cover the rest. So I guess I just got lucky with fin aid and yes my EFC is 0. I live in arizona so there I will be doing student housing and my financial background is obviously very little considering my EFC is 0. My mom only made like 10,000 last year. My school stats?? Haha ok I am not your average USC student my GPA was a 3.3. No special clubs, honors or anything. So I am just a lucky person who got in to a very selective school. Yay for successful stories like me.

uhm… that’s what i was trying to say in my post, that you just didn’t do the loan but they gave you the option, right? and i also mentioned that your dad was covering the loan part of your aid…
sorry if my post didn’t sound clear enough

Correction to my post:

caligurl was given the option to take out the loan but she did not need to because her dad covered that part…

sorry for any misunderstanding this has caused

hi caligurl…did u apply as a dependent or independent?

I am a dependent. I think if you are over 24, married, military and maybe some other things then you are independent.

Hey everyone, for people that are taking out loans. Did you guys go to the in person loan counseling meeting? thanks in advance.

Just so I understand correctly, what is the average amount in loans that people take out every year with an EFC of zero?

hey sorrie, for something off tangent, but umm when paying for your bills, is the univ grant, seog, and pell automatically deducted? when i got onto USCe pay, the minimum amount owed says 19000…also, how do you get the checks for the perkins and stafford loans?

joshbk-without room/board, USC is about 39k. (38k in tuition plus an extra 1k for fees, etc.)

hey is there any Bio majors that got accepted to USC as a transfer?

and if so what are your stats?

i’m in love with USC and always have wanted to transfer, right now i’m a molecular bio major with a chem minor so i wanted to see my chances :)
