Has anyone gotten financial aid info yet?

My D is still waiting. I don’t know if some students have received their aid notice???

When does financial aid come out

@valedictoriangod definitely. USC is unique atmosphere, heavy CA influence, incredible place. I know that many people got rejected with better credentials than me (I got accepted). I think its more holistic than other schools.

With 52k applicants, USC cannot be more or less holistic in candidate evaluation than any other school. Having said that, USC has the applicant numbers and the environmental factors (it’s LA, dude!) that gives them the opportunity to reject students they think don’t care much about being rejected. Everyone in my area, who is a reasonably ambitious student, applies to USC, and few end up going there when accepted. It’s never a serious contender among top students who are not awarded an impressive merit scholarship, and a regression analysis they must do easily tells them that they can reach the academic elite by rejecting those that aren’t likely to go to USC. Kudos to USC for using data and intelligence. My son was rejected from USC, even with national awards, 1% stats, and merit offers from the top schools. He wouldn’t have gone to USC anyway. I think they could tell. Moneyball calculus in higher ed is alive and well.

@ConcertoinD I am confused. So are you saying they are not need-blind? Just curious. Why do few from your area end up going to USC? Your son was probably rejected due to yield protection right?

@jaxson ,I didn’t get that @ConcertoinD 's is stating USC is not need blind – only that top merit scholarships entice students in his or her area who would otherwise shoot for different schools. USC admissions is building a class, and it does a great job selecting students from around the world who would thrive in the Trojan Family. Sadly, like all selective schools, USC has to make tough decisions, but I do agree that the school does build classes of students who are passionate about attending.

@CCMThreeTimes as I said, the message was confusing to me and I just wanted clarification of what @ConcertoinD was saying about the moneyball… Nothing you say is news to me. AsI said, USC uses a holistic approach---- which would be necessary to figure out which students were passionate about attending and would thrive at USC.

…and a holistic approach is very different from yield protection

Have any regular admits been invited yet to apply to the Thematic Option? If so, how were you invited? Snail mail, Email, or portal? Just curious if non-scholarship admits actually get invites.

The deadline to apply is Apr 11, and you can apply whether or not you are invited to.

My D is a presidential scholarship admit (NM) and she hasn’t received the invitation but will apply @austinpop

Decision: Rejected
ACT: 31
S: 36 - M: 29 - E: 29 - R: 29
UW GPA: 3.8 - W GPA 4.12
Pretty involved. Student Body President, Community Service, ETC.
Was a little bit shocked, yet not super surprised.
I guess what do you expect when you go to private school where people are very well connected.

Of course schools only want to accept students that are passionate about the school! The question is why do students and parents assume that addmission into any school is guaranteed? Even with great everything, it’s not; odds might be better but it’s still no guarantee.

Sadly when someone is rejected they often want to blame someone or something. Rejection is difficult to accept but it happens. For those who were rejected, or their parents, celebrate where you got in and be gracious.

For those who were accepted to USC, congratulation. It is an accomplishment to be proud of and there are many great students that wish they were in your shoes.

USC keeps contacting me about the Trojan transfer plan. They’re offering me the option to study abroad my freshman year and then come to USC sophomore year. Idk if I should do it :frowning: ugh decisions.
I’m okay with going to UCLA instead but I’d be lying if I said USC wasn’t my number 1 choice. This is hard /:

When is financial aid information coming out?

Does anyone have their financial information?

My son has not received the fin aid info… and has been checking the mail and portal daily this week. Hopefully soon!

Erm - just to help those who haven’t re-checked their youSC portal since admission results. The new wave of Dean’s Scholarships should be out! Cross your fingers and go have a look.

@greenstranger Where do the Dean’s Scholarships show up on the youSC portal?

@nubble16 I found mine inside Admission Decision, in a new Current Message box.
