USC Class of 2022

Hi so I am a spring admit and my financial aid summary says 18k but is that per semester or per year in that case??

also, I applied to USC as a Biophysics major, however I wish to be in the Viterbi school of engineering now – is it generally easy or difficult to transfer majors at USC?

@sagra There should be tabs about detailing if for year or by term. You can click on each. If it only shows one… likely per semester.

@sagra Into Viterbi would require applying and being admitted by that School specifically. Their School website should detail the internal transfer process, requirements, steps, etc.

When within the same school it is a breeze, basically just a signature, so if moving around within Dornsife, easy peasy. But between schools can be done too, it just needs approval from the school you are wanting to move to. Obviously, SCA, Viterbi and Marshall just can’t have wide open doors. So if trying to get into engineering you will need to take a few classes and get at least a B in them. They can help you start this process through advising, you can call or ask about it at orientation.

Couple FA questions:
(1) just yesterday uploaded document from NMSC to notify USC of $1k/yr NMF scholarship from my employer. How long does it usually take for them to process and update the FA portal?
(2) when do they update the FA portal to reflect NMF (and the possible addition money(s) potentially awarded as a result). We just changed his 1st choice with NMSC to USC yesterday.
Thanks in advance!

1] the $1K amount wont be shown until early Summer.
2 this is from the Dean of Admissions-written at the end of March last year-

"NMSC periodically sends us rosters of NMFs who have indicated that USC is their first-choice. We have already received one such roster and expect a couple more before the end of the month

· Once we’ve selected our admitted class (which, as you know, will be done next week), we then formally award Presidential Scholarships to admitted NMFs, and send them an award letter.

· NMSC continues to send rosters throughout April and May, with the last one usually coming in late May. This piecemeal approach causes no real problems for us; we just keep making Presidential awards as student’s names show up.

Students don’t need (and never have had) to tell NMSC before May 1 that we are their first choice and I believe that NMSC allows students to change their designation anytime between now and the end of May. Bottom-line is that as long as we receive a roster from NMSC with an admitted student’s name on it indicating a USC first-choice, he or she will be awarded a Presidential, regardless of when that roster comes to us."

So bottom line, your NM award will show up on the portal as soon as USC recieves notification of the first choice designation.

Hi, I have reading this post for a while and it has been really informative and uplifting. I was accepted but was really hoping to get a Dean or Accociate scholarship to make USC more affordable but I haven’t received one. Have these been awarded? Has anyone that was accepted this week been offered a Dean’s Scholarship or Associate Scholarship? Holding out hope

@CADREAMIN do you think that I will be able to transfer before starting my term at USC in the spring? In other words, how easy is it transfer?

@TravelGuru123 @futurodehail I totally understand that the whole asking if I could visit to hand in my appeal sounded entitled. I’m not sure if you were rejected or accepted (congrats if you were accepted), but on the appeal FAQ it does say you can hand the appeal in in person - so when I emailed my rep I asked if there was any advantage to doing so and if it was possible to have a conversation or mini-interview type of thing! I know, personally, that my personality is better in person than in writing - I’ve always struggled w/ descriptive writing. And I definitely know that my GPA was below the average - and while I had my hopes up for USC (it’s been my first choice forever), I didn’t think I was getting in. Quite a few girls at my school got in and I am extremely happy for all of them. One of them is my best friends and I told her that if anyone deserved to get into USC from this school it was her. I was definitely upset - and am still sending in an appeal to see what happens - but I have started to move on and look at my other options.

@sagra Sorry, I don’t know what you mean. Getting moved up to fall? Not sure what you are asking.

(FYI for those applying to School of Dramatic Arts in future years.) My S was not selected for scholarships/acceptance in January. He auditioned in February, was accepted to the BA program in March, and just received a Deans scholarship on his financial aid letter yesterday. So it is possible to get merit $ when accepted to SDA in March.

@Naevia That is fantastic. Hoping for one of the later awards to appear today since the list states by April 1.

@sagra You should likely just email Viterbi Admission and ask them about the timetable and procedures for internally transferring… viterbi.admission@usc.edu

Good Luck

Have students been notified of selection for Engineering Honors Program, Viterbi Fellow, or any other programs in Viterbi yet? If not, do you know when that might happen, and how it happens (e.g., mail, email, portal update, etc.)? My son really wanted the Viterbi Fellow program to get paid for research! :sunglasses: TIA

@WWWard Thanks again for the positive advice through the process. My son fell in love with USC and now I am too. I had to talk to their FA folks about some paperwork and expected them to be frazzled and to rush me and it was quite the opposite even though I am certain they were as busy as possible. They even put me on hold so they could walk to someone to double check if something they advised was correct. The little things like the way they try to notify folks through the mail with a date certain and have Spring admission rather than a waitlist make their process my favorite as well.

@johngaltiii You’re welcome. So glad that it may all work for your son…

I’d also like to add my thansk @WWWard and @CADREAMIN for their help in the various USC threads. A year ago, USC was not on our radar, but as we learned more about the school and visited the campus, my D fell in love with it and we feel it will be a great fit for her. We’re very excited that she will be living in McCarthy and will be close to home.

@kcheves Welcome to the Trojan Family and you’re welcome! One of mine graduated from Viterbi last May - please let me know if you have any questions. It’s fantastic - you should see where my S and all his friends landed in internships and jobs post graduation last spring, it is crazy good. Her education is in good hands there!

@kcheves You are of course very welcome. Fight on!
