Deans Scholarship was awarded! So excited!!
So if we didn’t get an email by now it’s safe to assume we didn’t get any scholarship?
What does the email say? For those of you who got it. Just wondering…
Can someone follow up on this?
For the deans tuition, is it a quarter off tuition AFTER I get financial aid money or BEFORE (so 14k no matter what)
We are Thornton, too, and didn’t get an email yet @Racingfan53 @raincat
I’m sorry to bring up the NMF scholarship again - I received an email offering me a Presidential scholarship just now, but it did not refer to my NMF status. Is this separate from the NMF scholarship? I know scholarships cannot be stacked but I was just curious.
@mjut02 that’s weird, I too am NMF and haven’t gotten anything. I understood from something @CADREAMIN said a while back that NMF Presidential notifications don’t come out in this merit round, but show up in your FAST portal later.
D got a notification she is a recipient of a Presidential scholarship. Not invited in Jan, but is an NMS. Selected USC as her top choice for NM way back. Also got into Stanford, so now has some decisions to make…
@Racingfan53 Nothing has shown up in my FAST portal yet so maybe it was a fluke? I guess it doesn’t matter anyway since merit scholarships don’t stack
Oh, interesting…I did not list USC as my top choice with NMSC. Could that be why I didn’t get the Presidential email?
I listed it as my first choice. I don’t think you need to do that until May 1st to get the scholarship though
@biochemmajor11 the dean’s scholarship is first. So if you’re full pay, it’s a 1/4 tuition discount. If you’re eligible for financial aid, the aid will be added to the scholarship up to their calculation of need. Let’s say you fall into their policy of financial aid covering full tuition to families making under a certain amount, the dean’s will not be in addition to that but included in that amount.
@jimbobcharlie so say I have to pay 20k for tuition before the scholarship. Does that mean after it, I have to pay 15k (one quarter off) or 6k?
Came here to say the same thing as @mjut02 and @typiCAmom - our son is a NMF who noted USC as his top choice way back when, and he also received notification of his Presidential Scholarship tonight, even though he was not selected in January.
FWIW, I think that was a very smart move on USC’s part to notify NMF’s of that scholarship tonight - strike while the iron is hot. We are beyond thrilled to have the official confirmation.
@CarBarlos It will not be a full ride necessarily. That implies room/board and all fees paid for too. But you should qualify for an university grant covering full tuition + a federal Pell grant + work study + loans… and maybe even an additional university grant covering partial room/board + fees. It just really depends on how they evaluate the whole FA package. But yes… you should make sure that its fully complete and that no required docs remain as outstanding. If the file is complete, you should receive the FA offering by early next week. Good luck…
My understanding is that they refer to both the 1/2 tuition scholarship that January admits interviewed for and the NMF scholarship as Presidential Scholarships.
@USCFightOn2020 I agree. Better to give good news early.
@TheSaltyTrooper Yes. Transferring majors is rather common at USC. You can discuss it with your adviser and possibly even accomplish it (if within the same School) during orientation. If to another School, that is more complicated, but still doable. They just need to approve it. No transfer is guaranteed. Some are rather difficult. It just depends.
If you applied for FA, check your FAST portal to see what remains as required. Once complete, they will send you a FA offering.
@biochemmajor11 They apply any and all scholarships first. Then they look at the remaining costs for tuition + fees + estimated misc costs + estimated room/board and then evaluate what they perceive your family can afford to pay. It will thus really come down to family income + assets/resources, etc.
My D got accepted in Dornsife, is a NMF, listed USC as top-choice school.
No scholarship notification, does it mean she is not awarded 1/2 tuition? She was
not selected for Jan interviews. I know both Jan interview based and NMF based are
called presidential.
I wonder what’s being announced tonight is non-NMF, NMF presidential is separate, announced next week?
Thoughts?
@typiCAmom Congrats on great choices - what a wonderful quandry to have! Tough one - if you can swing either then gotta go with her heart I suppose!
