@raincat you’re welcome
Dumb question but where does student find their USC ID? Is it the “Reference ID” at the top of the offer letter?
When I received the Veri-Tax request about two weeks ago, it was the same for me that it didn’t update after a few days after submitting it. I emailed the financial aid at USC and they replied that it will usually take about 7 business days for FAST to be updated.
@CAtransplant If you applied for FA, look at your FAST page, and its in the upper right hand corner next to your name. 10 digit #.
Hi, I posted not too long ago, but I am kind of freaking out. I was not at all expecting to get into USC, so now that I’ve gotten in, I want it more than ever. However, I’m VERY nervous about the financial aid.
Could any people with kids currently at SC give some insight? My family is aggressively middle class, and I’m afraid we make just enough money to not qualify for significant enough aid. Do you think we will still be “surprised” by our aid package, as many people claim?
Our FAFSA EFC ~ $30,000 (which is honestly kinda unrealistic considering I’m the youngest of 4 and my parents have already spent significant money on my sibling’s education but FAFSA doesn’t recognize that). How close to the “middle” do you think USC can meet us? Obviously no one can predict how much money I’m going to get, I’m not asking for that. But some insight and/or reassurance would be greatly appreciated. I’m nervous as they extend their financial aid program to fully pay tuition for those that make under $80000, it’s going to come at the expense of those in the middle class who kinda can and kinda can’t afford college.
Any guidance/thoughts would be greatly appreciated
Congrats again to those accepted (and especially those that got merit aid)
@onlyworthypotato We thought my daughter had included her SSN on everything, but when we looked at it, I think we realized that she had not included it on the common app. IIRC, her USC application wasn’t matching up with her financial aid application?? It has been a couple of months since we did that, but the message you are seeing sounds exactly like the message she had gotten. We went into the document library and submitted that SSN form with her assigned USC number (on the FAST page) so that they could match up everything. I would go ahead and submit it, and then if you’re worried about why they needed it, you can follow up when they’re open.
@WWWard yes, she did apply for financial aid and ok, I see it - thanks a lot!

hi, this is going to sound really stupid but i missed the december application deadline for scholarship and now im in and seriously considering going to usc - is there a way for me to get some merit scholarship halfway through the year or after my freshman year at usc?
also, i’m an international student . which means i can only get scholarship and not financial aid.
thankss
hey! i just want to know if anyone here is admitted into the wbb program! we have a groupchat on sc but we cant find a lot of students so lmk if you r!
@dommybo123 It is really hard for others, even those like myself with 6 years of experience with USC FA so far, to speculate. It is going to be a very specific analysis of your family’s financial situation alone… taking into consideration total available income plus all known assets. For lower to middle class families receiving financial aid, it can often be a mix of aid offerings… a potential university grant in some amount, a potential federal Pell grant in some amount (unlikely with your FAFSA EFC), potential federal work study and loans. The remainder would be your family’s expected family contribution. Usually though, their EFC is higher than the FAFSA one. Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised and can make it work. If not, you can always inquire with them to see if they might be able to adjust it any. Or… if they are steadfast and it will not work out given your family’s finances, hopefully, as a last resort, you have a solid option elsewhere that might work. Good luck…
@CAtransplant you’re welcome
@marilynben Unfortunately, that is very doubtful… at least not through USC directly.
Wait, what? Are you saying that usually USC expects families to pay more than the FAFSA number out of pocket?
@amsunshine Yes. FAFSA reports often only include info from one parent’s IRS filing and may not include all info on the family’s or families’ (if divorced) total available income + all available assets, etc. The FAFSA EFC is usually lower than how USC will calculate it. It is clearly dependent on your family’s or families’ financial situation(s), and you will know for sure soon, but the reality is that it is usual a higher #. That higher # can be dealt with a variety of ways… and they may offer loans and work study to deal with some of the EFC. Hopefully your situation is an exception. Good luck…
Interesting. For all the private schools my D has applied to, she has gotten more aid than what the FAFSA efc suggests. We will know for sure soon, indeed.
@amsunshine Hopefully that trends continues then for your family with USC.
probably a dumb question… if i did not apply for financial aid before can i apply now…? will i be considered?
Apparently USC’s acceptance rate shot up to 16% for the Class of 2024
@bibiabiyeye Not sure, but it is worth a shot. Apply and see…

Does anyone know how outside scholarships affect USC financial aid? I’m a 0 EFC student and I was accepted through Questbridge Regular Decision.
I know some colleges reduce financial aid if it goes over the work-study/loan amount. I hope to hope to purchase a portable computer/laptop for college and was wondering if USC offers some kind of financial support or if they allow some outside scholarships to be allocated for technology purchases?
