@HKimPOSSIBLE FA will reduce your perceived need based on any scholarship they are aware of. It will not simply replace any EFC that they calculate.
They start with total estimated expenses for the year, deduct any scholarship dollars they know about… and then calculate your need against that remaining balance.
As QuestBridge, you should receive significant financial aid though… an university grant that will cover your entire tuition + potentially more + Pell grant + work study +loans. Your family’s out of pocket amount due in real dollars will likely be relatively small. But it will still likely be something. USC’s EFC calculation is usually more than the FAFSA one. But hopefully its as close to zero as possible. Good luck…
Does anyone know how or when people are invited to the Freshmen Honors Science classes like Chemistry? I’m majoring in Biochemistry (might switch to psychology or something) for Pre-Med, and I hear the FSH Chemistry classes are much more reflective of AP Chem - smaller classes and less weed out.
Hello! I hope everyone who is reading this is well and healthy. I need some help trying to figure out a financial aid situation, and was hoping someone here could help me!
I was recently accepted to USC as a spring admit, which I’m super excited about! Congratulations to everyone else who was accepted as well.
So, here’s my problem: I submitted my FAFSA to USC (I have the transaction date and number, made sure that it was sent in). When I log into my FAST portal, I have a green check next to “Eligibility Checks,” a green check next to “Application Started,” but a red triangle with an exclamation point next to" Application in Review." Under the “Required Documents” section, it says my FAFSA is required.
I’m wondering if anyone else had this same issue. If so, how did you solve it? I saw something about submitting the “Student Social Security Number Information” form, found in the Document Library. How do I fill this out? Do I just print out the document, scan it, and upload it? Thanks so much for your help!
Hopefully, I can afford USC and attend as a spring admit (any other Spring 2021 admits out there?). I’m really excited, and again, congratulations to everyone! Fight On!
Interested in applying to Freshman Science Honors?
Students can apply to Freshman Science Honors after they have been admitted to the University. Please note: Only incoming freshmen students with a declared natural science major in USC College will be considered for admission to this program. The average SAT of an incoming FSH class is over 1470 and the average high school GPA is over 4.0. These numbers reflect averages from the past several years and not the minimums for applicants. But SAT/ACT scores and high school GPA are heavily considered in the admissions process. The vast majority of this year’s FSH students have taken AP Calculus (AB and/or BC) and AP Chemistry and/or AP Biology with a score of 4 or 5 on the respective exam.
The 2020 deadline is April 15, 2020 by midnight (PST). Admission decisions will be emailed on or before April 24. All applications received after this deadline will be considered on a space available basis after May 1.
If you have not received an invitation to apply, but are interested in FSH, please contact Lica Abu-Esba at abuesba@usc.edu.
@HKimPOSSIBLE congratulations I’ve seen your thread and it’s great to see such a positive outcome. If I remember correctly from last year S19 mentioned hearing about future classmates’ accepted into the freshman science honors program in late April or May. He’s in Viterbi so I just remember him mentioning it in passing since it didn’t apply to him.
@jjacquess Yes… just print out the document, scan it, and upload it. You may also want to call them or email them or fill out the online contact form. I shared both the email address and online contact form webpage a couple pages back on this thread.
Also… did you list USC as one of the schools to receive your FAFSA? If not… that could be the issue. You can always update and resubmit it too within the FAFSA portal… making sure to add in all the schools you have been admitted to.
I have the same issue as @jjacquess. I submitted the FAFSA to all my schools and it doesn’t show up (all the other schools sent me an email saying it had been received.) I didn’t bother resubmitting it though since I’m certain I won’t get the financial aid I need because of my high EFC. I’m basically full pay according to FAFSA.
@WWWard@CADREAMIN
Folks, you two know everything. (Cadreamin, I did read your USC TTP thread1)
My daughter, apparently got the Trojan Transfer Plan (as opposed to a flat out rejection). So, is it still true that the admission is virtually guaranteed if you do the right courses and get the right grades? Do they still want you to take only GE courses, and not, say, math and physics (for an engineering major)?
Another important thing: does USC consider giving any financial aid to these TTP kids, especially need-based?
@WWWard@CADREAMIN And one more question. Do you know how many TTPs are offered per year, and how many kids eventually try to do that transfer, and how many get in?
@Racingfan53 It’s ok to have it filed incase it is ever needed - conditions change in future years…not likely, but if already in system that can be helpful, so didn’t hurt to send it in. A lot of full pays (as we are aside from merit/athletic $) don’t bother completing a FAFSA with all that personal info since they know they aren’t getting anything. But just a heads up, even being full pay, students themselves can take Stafford loans (subsidized and unsubsidized) that are in the student’s name (not parent loans) that don’t have to be repaid till after graduation. Not huge relative to USC prices, like $3-7K a year, so student debt is approx 22K-ish in total after the four years…but if parents want student to have some skin in the game, some do that. But if don’t need/want them np, just a heads up.
Thank you, I PM-ed in return. There are questions however that are may be of general interest too:
Do you know how many TTPs are offered per year, and how many kids eventually try to do that transfer, and how many get in?
Recently was admitted as an Animation and Digital Arts Major. I haven’t been able to find any more Animation students in the class of '24. Please lmk if you know of any so I can link up with them : )
