Thank you @Marcie123 ! My son likes your daughter’s suggestion and will do so.
Thank you @CADREAMIN ! I completely forgot that not everyone accepts the scholarship and attends USC, and many would prefer the more social dorms. Sounds like it should all work out well.
@CollegeOdyssey2001 Thank you for your advice. DS has his sign in and password for housing all ready to go, and it is the exact plan that he has in mind - will send in housing application as soon as portal opens. I don’t think he has DSP advisor assigned yet. DS got an email back and gave him instruction on what to do. We are still waiting for his doctor to finish the forms so we could move to the next step. I will make sure DS stays on top of this. It is a learning process for me as well since I am so used to helping him out with stuff like this, but now it is time he needs to step up and learn how to advocate for himself
@Cjhastings322 Us too. I’m wondering if I should reach out to make sure they’ve received the docs we uploaded, because it’s been 3 days now since we uploaded but still shows needed. I’m assuming they’re just super busy.
@g8rgal93 I’m pretty sure that they are just super busy, and now that they have stopped using Veritax they have to ask for and check in all of those docs manually. The lady I spoke to in FA was so very nice and patient, so feel free to call them. I think I only waited on hold for 10-15 minutes. They really want to be as helpful as they can. She did mention that it could be 7 business days from when you submit the docs that they asked for before they can check them in and get started crunching the numbers for your file. I submitted the additional stuff they asked for on Monday and they have not been checked in by them yet, so we just have to be patient. They are all working remotely and now that the Veritax system hasn’t worked out as well for them as they planned, they are doing the best they can.
@JazzyG No kidding! Our tax returns don’t reflect any of our current situations. Did you already receive your package? I saw that you mentioned the new USC policy for 80K and under families. I wonder how that’s going…
@TheatreDadDFW Thank you! I’ll give them time. I’m sure it’s been a challenge working remotely during such a busy time of year for the financial aid department.
I called FA and reiterated my change in circumstances which was outlined in the CSS Profile. The representative thought it would be good to send in my 2019 TR which is in the process of being done. In the meantime, I sent FA supporting documentation for 2019. I will send my TR when it is completed.
But we have not received our package yet.
Hello! I’m appealing my decision to USC, could anyone help me with my appeal? I have no idea what to write and it’s due in a few days, USC has been my dream forever
@Cjhastings322 It just really depends. But complying with their requests is actually the only way to get it finalized and receive the FA offer.
@anythingbutzen Maybe look through the thread on that topic… and last year’s…
My D was admitted to USC but did not get into her requested school (Roski). Her admitted status shows that her major is “Open (undecided)” with a pre-professional emphasis. She received a welcoming email from Dornsife?? Is this the default school since she is classified as “Open”?
@JazzyG Yes. My D in same situation. Applied to SCA and she didn’t designate a second choice, so when she didn’t get accepted to SCA she was considered and admitted to USC Dornsife which is where they put Undecided and Undeclared majors. Here’s a little bit of information from their website https://dornsife.usc.edu/undecided/
How do we find an admitted student’s admissions counselor? Found a name but the site does not offer contact info such as an email. Thx!
@VivienL Did you use this to find your counselor - it should provide the contact information https://admission.usc.edu/find-your-counselor/
@JazzyG @g8rgal93 One of my Trojans had the same thing a few years back. USC admissions accepted your student but the SCA/Roski didn’t accept your student to their specific desired major. Do talk to an admissions person or call SCA and Roski and ask how difficult it will be to transfer into the major they want once on campus. Also you can look into minors in their schools if your students would be happy with that alternative. My Trojan was told she may not ever get into Thornton but gave her guidance each time she applied. Yes, it took her two tries and Thornton only allow two tries. Second try was do or die! So check!
@VivienL my daughter received an email on Thursday from her admission counselor congratulating her, saying she’d read her application, and giving her contact info in case she has any questions. Did your daughter receive one of those? Check with her, and maybe check spam or promotions if she didn’t see one.
@CAtransplant Yes, now that you mentioned it - YES, I think we did get that email. Thanks for the reminder. We have been getting SO many emails from the schools that have accepted my daughter - things get lost in the shuffle. Still trying decide between her top three.
@JazzyG @g8trgrl It apparently can vary then. When my daugher applied with two SCA major choices and was admitted Undeclared, her School assignment was open, and her adviser was in the Provost office and not Dornsife. She enrolled and internally transferred into SCA during her first semester at SCA, starting in her new major in the spring. She actually applied over the summer and got in during October. But different majors within SCA have their own requirements and timelines. I’m not sure about Roski, but they likely have details about internally transferring into their School online too.
@WWWard @CADREAMIN do you know if admissions counselors normally act as a resource and support admitted students through the decision making process or if this is a new role that they are asked to take on this year?
