USC Class of 2024 Applicants Thread

@biochemmajor11 I don’t mean to be rude but considering you’ve already posted this on the Veri-tax thread you created, is it really necessary to ask on this thread? I just want to minimize the repetition of the same questions being asked and answered to avoid confusion for the followers of this thread.

does anyone know what time of day the portal is usually updated?

My guess is circa 2pm Pacific. But that’s just a guess.

guys just wanted to ask something. Yesterday I received an email from USC saying that they they had reviewed my application, but they need my mid-year grades to make a final decision, and that even though I may have submitted them already, they want me to re-submit them through the portal again. Just wondering what these means as I already submitted my mid-year grades?

^^^Automated.

Just keep in mind when reviewing threads and collecting data, that people that are rejected don’t tend to post other than “rejected,” if that. So statisically, data collecting overall on posts may not be so valid.

@PurpleLlama066 does your portal show they received your midterm grades? They sent my son a similar email last month and we sent them in shortly after. His portal updated to show they had received them.

@PurpleLlama066 That happened with my older daughter in 2014. She found it strange as well… but she did as requested and was eventually admitted. Good luck…

Based on this info from @PurpleLlama066, perhaps they are still tweaking the admit list.

I know legacy may not matter as much as before after the whole USC scandal thing, but from my high school, all the students who get into USC have always been legacy students. Top students without legacy who apply to USC from my school never get in, so I don’t know if legacy still plays a big part.

@idkhuhwait Even before the college admission scandal, the trend was for only roughly 10% of all legacy applicants to be admitted. Such is the case when 10K+ legacy applicants apply each cycle… and it is only possible to admit 1000 or so.

@idkhuhwait

That’s really interesting. What geographical region are you from? Out of our school nobody has legacy status. The kids USC takes are very bright students, but they ALL have a “special” factor. They each did something very “unique”.
Same at another school in town. We are very far geographically from USC, but one of my favorite things about USC is the kids they take!!

@2022soon

I’m from NYC and there are lots of kids who have parents or siblings who attend/attended USC who got into USC in the previous years. I don’t know, it just may be a coincidence.

WELL JUST REJECTED FROM UCLA SO USC IS BASICALLY MY ONE FOR ALL. I am feeling so great right now. I really am hoping for some good news in my life right now, I really need it.

Im ready for a big fat reject sadly because even though they accept 10+ students from my school every year, I only know people who have gotten in due to family ties and money. WHAT IS LIFE

@CindyLeuWho how did you see your UCLA decision? I haven’t gotten any emails from them but I know I should be receiving my decision today? Also I’m in the exact same situation as you, USC and community college are my only two options at this point, didn’t get an interview from UCLA so I was def rejected :frowning:

@emiliafilms I heard UCLA wasn’t doing internships for students unless they were borderline applicants. There is no email (unless there is an email for accepted students) so I recommend just going to the portal. Warning, it goes straight to the decision. Good luck!

I really don’t want to go to a school that I am just ok with oh my godddd. I applied to so many schools I don’t even like what am I doing with my life?! LIVING ON A PRAYER.

@CindyLeuWho Same boat as you. I’d be more than happy at this point to attend USC. I have UCSD and UIUC right now, and I’m still waiting for Berkeley, but USC would be ideal since it’s not far from home.

@CindyLeuWho Didn’t I see on the Syracuse board that you got into Newhouse? That is a very prestigious school television or journalism (can’t remember what you were admitted for) You should be proud of yourself for getting in there. Other than the weather, there are a lot of similarities between Syracuse and USC.

USC is literally my only option at this point… I was waitlisted at Chapman and LMU, then denied from UCLA. It’s either going to be USC or community college for me and that terrifies me. At least you guys got into other schools, I literally have 0 alternate options if USC doesn’t work out & this whole admissions process has been awful… anyone else in the same boat?
