So you mean the RSVP link you posted above, which we received on the second postcard was sent to everyone? That’s so strange so many over the years did not get it. @JustMom2022
In the past, there were different types of SDA notices. The official SDA Open House invitation with RSVP, etc was a different and more selective one that seemed to translate to an eventual admission. But I guess we will learn tomorrow if that remains true or not.
Good luck to all applicants. Just one more day…
@WWWard or @CADREAMIN Sorry if this has already been asked and answered-but it says on the USC Undergraduate admissions sight that all who interviewed for Merit scholarships will be notified of their award at the end of March. Does this include Dean’s? Wondering if there are any surprise Dean’s on the horizon for anyone or if only those interviewed will get a Dean’s.
@uscscamom I’m not exactly sure… as my daughters never went through the merit process… but previously, @CADREAMIN has posted:
"Hopefully they have a blitz of Deans to send just after the results are posted. For other departmental scholarships, you may get an email, but sometimes they just show up in your FA section of portal ahead of a notification.
FA info is not sent with acceptance, it posts 3-7 days after portal update, sometimes longer if they are still waiting on info. Inevitably, some people find out they got accepted (yay!) but then find out they don’t get the aid they need to attend. "
@WWWard Thanks- I saw @CADREAMIN 's answer too but I wondered if there has been any more info from her birdie on if only those who interviewed should expect something. I hope there are a whole bunch of surprise Dean’s this year included in acceptances- it could really help out a lot families right now. Only 1 more day until we find out!!
@uscscamom Hopefully so. In these troubling times, any extra financial relief would be welcome for sure. Good luck…
Is there a high chance that merit scholarship decision will be released today?
@FalconRazik There’s a chance that it’s today or tomorrow. It should certainly be announced by Monday. They are in charge, so I would not be willing to predict the specific day with any certainty. In most prior years, it occurred before decision day. Last year though, it occurred afterwards.
@uscscamom Yes, there will be Dean’s given to students that did not interview. There were quite a few last year, they were posted within a day or two of results. They just aren’t talked about that much on here, because once results are posted, people usually acknowledge they got in (if that) then posting slows way down, so the data doesn’t collect here. Also statistically, 130 of anything isn’t that many over 60,000 applicants or even the 7k-ish that get in, so seeing posts about them on here is slim. But there will be some - I did get confirmation on that.
They tend to show up within a couple days of portal update of decision. Followed by FA updates for those that applied for FA. FA updates are usually 3 - 7 days after decisions, longer if they are waiting on info.
Good luck!
@CADREAMIN This may be a dumb question, but it’s our first kid going through this…so if there are scholarships that you don’t interview for, would she have still been notified by email a couple months back? Basically, are there still scholarships that they could give that kids aren’t made aware of before decisions? Or if you weren’t notified is there no award that could come from them at all? Thank you!
@WWWard Do you have any insight into how much USC considers your second choice when 1st is not probable? We’re Monday morning quarterbacking over here, thinking 2nd choice should have been 1st choice because our 1st choice is a much sought after dept, and DD has huge accomplishments in her 2nd choice. No use stressing now, but insight is always fun to have.
@VivienL Every applicant is being evaluated 2-3 ways, depending on whether your 2nd choice major is in the same School as your first. 1st and foremost, the overall university is evaluating you. And they must admit you to get in. Next, your 1-2 Schools evaluate you as well. Your 2nd choice is aware though that they were listed 2nd. Some programs, I have heard, routinely decline if they are only your 2nd choice. As you say, it is sort of pointless to stress over it now though. You will know tomorrow.
In my younger daughter’s case, both of her major choices were in SCA, and SCA passed. She was admitted to USC, but only as Undeclared. But she remedied that situation very quickly by internally transferring into SCA by October. Switching majors and/or Schools is actually quite common at USC. So is adding a second major… or even a third… and/or 1 or more minors. The key thing is simply getting in. Once that is accomplished, everything else can be worked out over time. Good luck…
@WWWard Thanks for the insight. One more question (sorry) Did your daughter state a 2nd choice or was she just admitted undeclared without one? My DD’s 1st choice was SCA but we’re not expecting admittance due to its popularitcy, so that won’t be a heartbreak. Her second choice was a different school and she would be well qualified It was great to hear your DD was able to transfer into SCA once she was in the school. Bravo!
@VivienL Yes… my daughter named two choices. Both were majors within SCA.
@COmama24 There are no dumb questions! There are other scholarships available that applicants didn’t interview for - Dean’s is the most in terms of quantity - usually about 125 of them for 1/4 that are given just after results (update to portal) and then there are things like Associates - very few of those 5-10, but for $18,000 and Leadership for 10,000. No one interviews for those, they too are given around result time - usually withing day or two.
You can find more info here - hope you get great news!

Not entirely true. My son and I met with the dean of admissions. Here’s what he said: USC may decline to admit you. Thornton School of Music admits you or rather wants you in their program. 9 times out of ten USC will then admit the student to accommodate the desires of the specific school.
How many people here are going to commit to USC as soon as they get in?
@cowboysfan2001 if Berkeley doesn’t come through, I’m 100% committing to USC
@cowboysfan2001 I’ve dreamed of attending the school of cinematic arts since I was in 6th grade! I’d commit to USC immediately if accepted but my family can’t afford it so I’d need major FA first ?
@fd1676 Of course such is a possibility. But that process would happen first… before USC Admissions overall officially fails to admit an applicant. They clearly communicate with each other beforehand. So, an admitted applicant would not even know that such may have occurred in their case. That routinely happens at Schools like SDA, SCA, Thornton, Kaufman, etc. Individual Schools, especially those in the creative or performing arts, may want to admit someone, and USC overall may not yet be on board. They then must try to sway USC Admissions on an applicant’s behalf. But I have also heard that they are not afforded an unlimited # of such requests. They can go to bat or fight for a limited number of such applicants. For example, even SCA knows that they have to pick and choose who they wish to lobby for in such instances.
