USC Class of 2028 — Regular & Early Action Decisions

Did anyone EA who does NOT live in CA receive it? My son applied EA and we got it (not having checked the box about applying for FA)… but we are in CA. (Wondering since it refers to Cal grant)

We live in CA but we didn’t get it.

We are in CA and do not have the email

FA requests and emails and flyers and postcards, etc., don’t mean anything. Some will get in after those requests, some won’t. Some won’t get the requests for all kinds of reasons, some get them when they didn’t apply for a thing (full pay). It can be the upside world at times.

The problem is parents and students read into those things and it more stressful, or they think its a nod to acceptance, and if don’t get in, it makes the news harder to take. Best to think of them all as marketing materials - neutral in every way.

So send in what is requested if you are applying for aid, but don’t ponder the other stuff.

I try to understand that it could be a marketing thing, but in the current world of technology and the prestige level of USC would still allowed for such slip of confusing information? To send FA regular decision info to EA applicants and some didn’t even chose FA? Quite disturbing….

I have a question if you are ok. Your docs which were asked went to receive section. So your portal has green color as complete? Because ours are in received section but yet it say action require, red color. I just wonder if it will become green. Thank you.

No, it will stay red until they receive FAFSA. That’s what we were told.

I am not going to tell the story publicly but a T20 school sent a MAJOR email oops to my kid in November about a month after he submitted his early application. It happens sometimes, even at the most prestigious of schools.

I don’t understand the issue. FA isn’t released till after regular decisions, there is no regular decision FA and EA FA. It’s all the same FA.

And buckle up for a long ride, the FA portal is very slow to update and you will get asked for some things more than once.

This is the email received today. Why is addressed to Regular decision applicants?

I am not sure who this comment is directed to, but all FA offers may come out after RD but the applicant deadlines are different for EA vs. RD. Since the email is talking to RD applicants (with their deadlines), my confusion - I don’t claim to be speaking for anyone else - is why this email went to some EA applicants. If you are saying it’s just spam, I will believe it!

ETA: sorry, just seeing the additional posts

Ya they send out all kinds of things-scholarship notices for low income go to Jeff Bezos. Race based scholarships going to those that don’t qualify for that particular category. Town & Gown notices go to people that aren’t geographically qualified.

We never applied for aid and with four students there, every year we got reminders to update our FAFSA etc when we had never applied in first place.

They do not manage their applicant database well, never have.

I would not take that as a deferral, but rather bad database managment. But I understand the suspicion.

POST edit: Hopefully yours gets in EA to prove me right! Good luck!

Others have orange . Currently under review. Thank you for letting me know. I think we are fine.

I kind of think that applications must have been marked as RD and the FA department send a mass email just little too early. If I’m wrong you have a big hug f me😄

Unfortunately someone on Reddit confirmed with their USC counselor that this email means you got deferred. And yes, the financial aid department is completely separate from admission the only issue is that they should have informed them they changed students from EA to RD today so they would make such faux pas…….

That person is just ■■■■■■■■. Why would an AO admit that two days before decisions are out? Anyone can go on reddit and message that, doesn’t make it true. That posts has like 2 upvotes – not exactly very trustworthy (really, nothing on any forum is trustworthy).

We don’t have to fill any of that out if we are full pay, correct? The CSS, FAFSA, etc.?

Edited to say “full pay,” not whatever delerious swipe-text that was.

The regular application deadline was 1/15, so it’s normal for FA to email them two days after about the FA regulations for regular admission. Perhaps some EA were changed at the same time and got pulled to the same mass email…. Just trying to justify this…
