USC Class of 2028 — Regular & Early Action Decisions

Do you have same like mine? Empty?

It didn’t occur to me to even click on 2023-2024. Why? It doesn’t relate.

yes

Why not step further into the delusion of portal astrology? I know astrology usually doesn’t matter and I don’t have homework so why not

DS24 got multiple

12/20 (Early Action applicants Submit…)
1/9 (Early Action applicants Submit…)
1/17 (Regular Decision applicants Submit…)

We are not requesting FA so I assumed we were getting these reminders.

Received same . From CA.

From Reddit - take it with a pinch of salt (not corroborated);

“We received approximately 41,000 applications for Early Action admission and merit scholarship consideration. On Friday, January 19, we will release our EA decisions via the students’ USC applicant portal. We will offer admission to approximately 2,950 students. All remaining students will be invited to defer to Regular Decision. An additional 40,800 students applied by our Regular Decision deadlines. I expect we will admit another 4,600 first-years for fall, or about 60% of the total, in late March.”

It’s legit. Comes directly from the email sent to guidance counselors. Here is the entire letter:

  1. Early Action First-Year Application Numbers

We received approximately 41,000 applications for Early Action admission and merit scholarship consideration. On Friday, January 19, we will release our EA decisions via the students’ USC applicant portal. We will offer admission to approximately 2,950 students. All remaining students will be invited to defer to Regular Decision. An additional 40,800 students applied by our Regular Decision deadlines. I expect we will admit another 4,600 first-years for fall, or about 60% of the total, in late March.

The deferral letter includes instructions on what students should and should not do next. Students who wish to be considered in Regular Decision must submit an Early Action Deferral form in their portal. We also remind students to submit mid-year grades if they have not already done so. That’s it-- these are the only two things students need to do to be considered for admission in the RD round.

To ensure equity, we will not consider new materials, such as resumes, essays, updates. We specifically ask students not to request additional recommendations or submit letters of continued interest. Feel free to encourage your students to submit the EA Deferral form only and assure them they will receive full consideration by completing this simple task. The application your students worked hard to submit will still represent them well in the next round.

  1. Merit Scholarship Process

We considered EA applicants for merit scholarships. Unfortunately, those we ask to defer are also notified they will not move forward in the competition for the Trustee (full tuition), Presidential (half tuition), and Leadership ($10,000 per year) scholarships (see the exception below for National Merit).

On January 30, the 2,950 admitted students will receive one of three updates about their scholarship status.

Roughly 800 students will proceed to the next phase of consideration for the Trustee and Presidential Scholarships, our top awards. Their next step will be to schedule their scholarship interview via their applicant portal. After interviews, final scholarship decisions will be released in late March.

200 students will be notified of the receipt of a smaller scholarship, such as our Deans Scholarship (quarter tuition) and Leadership Scholarship ($10,000 per year).

The remaining admitted students will be notified that they are no longer being considered for the above-mentioned awards. Students can still be considered for other scholarships found on our Scholarships page.

Any applicant who is named a National Merit Finalist, offered admission, and selects USC as their first-choice institution, will receive a USC Presidential Scholarship.

  1. Portfolio Based Programs

Students who applied for a program that required a portfolio or audition – which are RD-only programs – will be notified by their academic area of interest regarding next steps in the process for admission and merit scholarships. Decisions on admission and merit scholarships for these programs will be sent in late March.

  1. Need-Based Financial Aid

We require the FAFSA and CSS Profile for need-based financial aid consideration. Our Early Action deadline for these documents was January 12, but we know there have been challenges with the release of the redesigned FAFSA. We are encouraging students to do their best to submit as soon as possible. Students will not be penalized and will receive full consideration. We will continue to review applications received after the deadline. The Regular Decision financial aid filing date is February 7.

  1. See Your List on [Slate.org]

Like many other admission offices, we share information on our applicants with school counselors via [Slate.org], a free service provided by Technolutions, the maker of the Slate admission platform used by so many colleges. Sign up for an account to submit materials, review the status of applications, and track admission decisions. Our decisions will be visible on [Slate.org](after students have seen them).

  1. General Reminders

Feel free to forward this note or share our mailing list signup form with colleagues. You and your students are always welcome to reach out to the USC admission officer assigned to your school.

I hope you find this information useful. I want to be sure we are responsive to your needs, so feel free to let me know how we can help make your job easier. I will follow up in late March with information about the full applicant pool and our decision release. I am grateful for your patience as we finish this difficult work. We at the USC Office Admission wish you the best as you continue to support your students in the pursuit of their goals.
